| 22310 zip code. My DS's letter came today. He is not in pool but we will parent refer. He got a 123 on Cogat which isn't great but we had a WISC done as we suspect ADHD and the WISC scores are good (over FSIQ 130) |
| Seems like a good WISC trumps all so good luck! Sorry he is not in pool. I am beating myself up as I wait for the CogAT because DS had a low NNAT and I am 100% sure he belongs in AAP. I assumed he would do better on the CogAT but he may not. MY DS has anxiety and possible inattentive type ADHD so when we got the (surprising) NNAT results we considered a WISC but decided to wait and see. Now I wish I had gone ahead and done it. Still waiting for today's mail ... |
Not PP but I hope so. Got our letter today. DD is not in pool. She has a 130 WISC. I don't know if that is good or not. Not sure it is high enough. I just don't know. |
As a psychologist I can tell you a 130 WISC score should trump a 132 CogAT but who knows how they compare the scores. |
PP here. I hope so. Any ideas why my DD could get a 130 WISC but a 123 CogAT? and 118 NNAT? 2 bad days???? 1 lucky day??? Her GBRS in K and 1st were 14 both times. |
Don't know if anyone can answer this but, if you do have an okay CogAT (124) and NNAT (120) and a WISC with a FSIQ of 137 (GAI of 143, I know they don't look at the GAI though) with an ADHD diagnosis should you include that in the referral and also note the ADHD diagnosis? On the parent comments it asks about a diagnosis/LD. |
Yes. You may need to include some sort of paperwork showing the diagnosis, though. I would ask your AART. |
| were these letters mailed or sent in the student folders? |
Mailed |
Ours arrived today in the student folders. Like everything else in FCPS, it seems to vary by school. |
| If the child is in pool with a LARGE spread in scores, is that helpful or harmful to the application? For example, a 115/130/150 spread with a VQN around 140. Is it worth it to submit a WISC when the FSIQ is pretty close to the VQN, and when the subscores for the most part follow the same pattern as the V/Q/N scores? |
Received CogAt score today, zip 22015. Ughh, not in pool by a long shot. NNAT was not good either. I am planning to parent refer because I believe AAP is a good fit. Should I look into getting a WISC? I have no idea what GBRS scores have been in previous years but NNAT/CogAt are not going to cut it Has anyone waited and referred in a later grade?

| Letter came home today with the kids at our school. |
I have no idea what score range your child falls into. At this point, you have to look at the scores and consider whether they mean that your child isn't as bright as you think he is, or whether the scores don't mean much at all. If the latter, then apply and get the WISC. If the scores are over 110, it's possible that the supporting evidence will be strong enough that your child will be admitted first round anyway. If you apply and get rejected, you can appeal with the WISC. If you don't apply at all and then get a high WISC, you you're out of luck until next year. |
| Received ours today. 126 VQN and NNAT was 127. Is it worrh to parent refer?do you think we have a chance based on experiment? |
