I'm glad my DS is not alone. He scored above grade level for iready language arts test and decently on the WISC VCI, but had a very unimpressive CogAT verbal. He actually scored lower than his older sister, despite being MUCH stronger with language arts compared to where she was in 2nd grade.

Verbal is the worst score for us too. I have a child who is an advanced reader and in the top reading group in class.

This is the one test you really can't prep for. And the people administering the test are trained to spot prepping.

Is your DC in level II AAP go reading? What is his MAR and I ready result?

+1 The only prep you should do for a WISC is prep your pocketbook for the $400 hit.

Aren't iReady and Cogat verbal are different type of tests? MRA and IReady have more commonality.

The test is a closely guarded secret, since they administer the same thing to all the kids. So, you cannot see the questions or her responses. My DD had a considerably worse score on her verbal as well, despite reading a couple of grade levels ahead.

Sure, but WISC VCI should be very similar to CogAT verbal. When all signs except CogAT verbal point to a child being well above average in language arts abilities, I tend to believe those over the CogAT verbal.

WISC and CogAT verbal are very different tests and not directly comparable.
