Received in-pool letter. No Cogat yet. Marshal pyramid.

Is it worth it to submit a WISC when the FSIQ is pretty close to the VQN, and when the subscores for the most part follow the same pattern as the V/Q/N scores?

I’d save WISC for appeal in unlikely event you need to appeal if composite is around 140.

Not PP but I hope so. Got our letter today. DD is not in pool. She has a 130 WISC. I don't know if that is good or not. Not sure it is high enough. I just don't know.

As a psychologist I can tell you a 130 WISC score should trump a 132 CogAT but who knows how they compare the scores.

PP here. I hope so. Any ideas why my DD could get a 130 WISC but a 123 CogAT? and 118 NNAT? 2 bad days???? 1 lucky day??? Her GBRS in K and 1st were 14 both times.

We have similar scores - 120 CogAT and 133 WISC with a dyslexia dx. We shall see!!

PP here, and I'll probably ask the AART. My worry is that the CogAT Verbal was the low score, and the WISC verbal is a bit better (low 120s). I wasn't sure how much the Verbal score is king. For both CogAT and WISC, Quant/FRI were the super high scores.

NNAT and CogAT both reward convergent thinking as well as executive function (staying focused, staying organized, keeping track of which bubble to fill in, etc.). WISC is a one on one test with a psychologist, isn't always multiple choice, and can accept alternate "correct" answers if the reasoning behind it is sound. Children who are moreso outside the box thinkers or who have worse executive function will probably score lower on CogAT than WISC. 130 WISC should get in, but it probably depends on the sub scores. I think the committee cares most about VCI and FRI and least about PSI.

Should I look into getting a WISC? I have no idea what GBRS scores have been in previous years but NNAT/CogAt are not going to cut it Has anyone waited and referred in a later grade?

NP. Why do you think that?

Mine got the exact same scores, but with the CogAT and NNAT reversed. In pool letter arrived today.

Yes. Expect letter in mail. If not by Wednesday then contact AART.

The grade 2 Screening Pool has been set for Spring 2018 screening. The grade 2 Screening Pool will include students scoring a 132 composite score on the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) and/or a 132 on the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT). Parents/guardians of pool qualifying students will be notified by the student's school.

So did you receive both Cogat results and in pool letter simultaneously?

I am hoping we get the CoGAT results by tomorrow, it will factor in to whether or not we include the WISC in the referral (I would prefer not to include it TBH), I understand why they hold off on releasing the scores, but honestly, I think it should be more standardized through out the county. I find it ridiculous that some schools released letters and results before the break, some haven't released anything at all as of yet (no in pool results or results at all), some schools send them by mail and some send them home via folder.

For a system that makes such a large deal out of these tests and results, it just seems silly not to have a more standardized system of release for the scores and I am surprised it hasn't been brought up (or a demand hasn't been made). I guess that most people just get through the process and then are ready to move on.

If WISC score is good why not include it?

Still no letter. Crazy!

We got our letter today as well. Daughter had a 120 NNAT last year, and a CogAT composite of 134. My wife and I haven't been too invested in this process, no tutors or anything; we were going to rely on the school to decide whether she should be in the program or not, and she was referred in. I don't know which of the numbers are most important, her verbal was 99th percentile, the other scores were lower but the local composite percentile was 94th. Her age percentile was higher as she is on the younger side in her grade.

We're kind of torn. I probably made the mistake of mentioning this to her because now she's really interested, but she sometimes gets stressed out over projects and I want to make sure she has time to be a kid. As I said, we had planned on letting the school make the decision, we weren't going to bother with parent letters or appeals or WISC's, whatever that is. Is skipping the parent questionnaire going to negatively affect her chances? I don't want to be a parent who harasses the AART teacher but I also don't want to negatively affect her chances by our actions. Is the 120/134 and the other percentiles, an indicator that she has a good shot?
