CogAT/Pool letter arrived

My wife and I haven't been too invested in this process, no tutors or anything; we were going to rely on the school to decide whether she should be in the program or not, and she was referred in. I don't know which of the numbers are most important, her verbal was 99th percentile, the other scores were lower but the local composite percentile was 94th. Her age percentile was higher as she is on the younger side in her grade.

We're kind of torn. I probably made the mistake of mentioning this to her because now she's really interested, but she sometimes gets stressed out over projects and I want to make sure she has time to be a kid. As I said, we had planned on letting the school make the decision, we weren't going to bother with parent letters or appeals or WISC's, whatever that is. Is skipping the parent questionnaire going to negatively affect her chances? I don't want to be a parent who harasses the AART teacher but I also don't want to negatively affect her chances by our actions. Is the 120/134 and the other percentiles, an indicator that she has a good shot?

Anyone in pool has a good shot.

Is a 129 composite considered the bubble?

132 composite is the cut off.

You should go ahead and fill out the parent questionnaire. No need to harass the AART teacher for that. Just drop it off.

Should I look into getting a WISC? I have no idea what GBRS scores have been in previous years but NNAT/CogAt are not going to cut it Has anyone waited and referred in a later grade?

NP. Why do you think that?

PP. Because I know my child pretty well. I know that he comes home and researches subjects well ahead of his grade level just for the fun on learning. Chemistry is regular dinner conversation. I know that he loves learning but isn't excited about school. I know that he struggles to hold conversation with friends because he is talking over their heads. I know that he would love to share his ideas and interests with other kids who have the same thoughts and interests.

Sounds like my kid. NNAT was low, still waiting on CogAT. I’ll parent refer no matter the score and get a WISC.

Sorry to hijack. We are in Arlington and they don’t give a composite score. If my child scored in the 99% overall is there a score range we can estimate? Thamks.

Can anyone tell me which score is going to be used by the county for decision making? Cogat VQN is 126. but there is also local sore which is lower than the national percentile rank. which oneof these will be used for those who didnt make it to the pool.
Also how do they factor in NNAT?

Composite score of 132

COGAT weighs more than NNAT so if you have only one high score of two you want it to be COGAT. Won't work if it's the other way around.

There is probably some way to figure out what the bottom end of the 98th percentile is.

99% is around 135-140

NNAT is harder and most people try to justify low NNAT scores with this logic.

I know I've been freaking out a little this week. Many people got theirs already. No word or letter from our school. This is crazy.
