Will Larry Hogan win Re-Election?

This is the weakest argument I have heard.

Do you really plan on voting for your state governed based on the school calendar? Pathetic and very narrow-minded.

I'm not the PP but agree. Hogan's action was to reward campaign donors by overextending state regulation into education in a manner that has nothing to do with educating students, just rewarding beach businesses. He spent NO energy improving schools and only worked to inappropriately hold back cap funds already collected/allocated to schools to improve infrastructure. So its just fine with Hogan if kids are in rooms with failing HVAC as long as his beach business buddies get some kick backs. Worst type of politician.

+1 Though, if Amazon somehow miraculously picks MoCo for HQ2, he just might get enough support to win it. We moved to MoCo for the schools, and Hogan did nothing good for the schools, only bad. I don't care about toll roads. Taxes, maybe, but he's not done much there, either in terms of countering the loss of SALT deductions (we actually aren't affected by this much). I suppose the state assembly is partially to blame in that as well, though.

His silence on the travel ban was the worst. MD citizens were getting caught up in this in BWI and Dulles. The VA gov was out there advocating for his citizens. Our MD congressional reps were out there. Where was Hogan? No where. He was silent and did nothing, couldn't be found. Such an asshole.

Oh please. What "citizens" were caught up in this? It was a political carnival, not a crisis.

Maybe you should educate yourself. Plenty of us citizens have relatives who have been "caught up" in Trump's bigoted bans. This is a nation of immigrants.

Amazon is not going to pick a site til the end of the year-not clear whether they'll have a decision before the elections. And why is Hogan getting credit for the MoCo proposal? The Baltimore proposal failed to get shortlisted. Other states (like Pennsylvania), had two cities get shortlisted.

Hogan put his "powers of persuasion" behind Baltimore's bid. That should tell us something.

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/politics/bs-md-hogan-amazon-20170915-story.html

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said he will personally lobby Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos to build the company’s massive new headquarters in Baltimore.

Hogan said he believes pitching Port Covington is the state’s best bet to win the new Amazon campus and its promised 50,000 new jobs.

“We're going to go after it as hard as we possibly can,” Hogan told reporters Friday. “It's going to be a united effort. … This could be transformative, not just for Baltimore City, but the whole state of Maryland.”

If they were caught up in the travel ban, by definition they were not citizens and have NO rights to immigrate to or even visit this country. If we decide to let them in, good for them. Being a nation of immigrants does not bind us to allow in everyone who wants to come. People who say that are extremely ignorant of the history of immigration policy in this country.

Yeah whatever. Tell it to Anne Frank. Oh wait...you can’t.

The #1 reason Dems should NOT vote for Hogan: Maryland will be setting new political districts in 2020, and the state should not be redistricted to help ANY Republicans.

Other reasons - he has done NOTHING for those in Montgomery County, even as our schools continue their downward slide. The school calendar fiasco is just another example of Republican hypocrisy - they claim to want less government control/regulation, but make exceptions for women's bodies and county school calendars.

+1 He also refused to speak out against the Trump Muslim ban and has that autocratic school calendar policy that many parents hate. If there is a decent alternative, I’m happy to vote Democrat.

And the cuts to NIH funding and Chesapeake protections. Those directly affected Maryland and it’s residents and he was silent. The cuts to education and his idiotic executive order are also appalling. I will vote for the D unless s/he seems incompetent.

This.

Sums up my thoughts as well.

He will win since the Dem candidates are awful.

I refuse to vote for him. He's contributing to the issues with MoCo schools, and he's trying to destroy a ton of southern county neighborhoods with his Beltway expansion plan.

I won't vote for him unless he builds a wall to keep Virginia drivers from Md.

As a die hard democrat, I actually like Hogan and might vote for him depending on who the dem candidate is. However, as someone mentioned above if it affects redistricting then I will have to vote dem as I hate republicans more than anything.

This kind of thinking is idiotic, but you are hardly alone.

Partisans do this on both sides.

I work in criminal justice and was very impressed with the Criminal Justice Reinvestment Act that is supposed to help empty expensive prisons and get people treatment for substance abuse and mental health. It is all supposed to save money. A hogan initiative. Great!

So why is hogan now introducing three bills that water it down, including manatory sentences for firearms, gang members, and trying juveniles as adults in certain circumstances? It’s like a page out of Jeff Sessions’ playbook. And will cost more state tax dollars.
