Unhelpful MIL- whose job to tell her?

OP was probably trying to make things easier for MIL by having a menu. If MIL didn't know how to make something, she should've said so. Somehow, I don't think OP expected her MIL to cook 3 Michelin star food every night. OP sounds like she would've been happy if her MIL made any kind of meal.
