MD here. CPR for infants is done with 2 fingers-not likely to cause all of those rib fractures. Also the majority of children with long bone fractures will have some swelling, pain, or other signs, such as decreased use of the extremity, suggesting a fracture. Some children, however, will have minimal external signs of injury. A parent may mistake crying as teething, colic or general fussiness( for instance) if there are not other signs of injury...

When I read about the broken ribs my first thought was CPR. Maybe he didn't know to use 2 fingers?

I guess it depends which ribs and parts of the rib that were fractured. Rib fractures caused by CPR would be anterior (top of chest). Rib fractures caused by child abuse would be posterior (back side) and occur when a compressive force is applied during violent shaking as the perpetrator compresses the child's chest using both hands.

A parent knows their baby. If they dropped a happy go lucky baby off at daycare and picked up a screaming colicky baby in the evening - they would know that something was wrong. I would imagine that a baby with a broken arm is going to be holding that arm differently and every time they tried to use that arm (to hold a bottle or a teething ring or to self feed) there would be pain and screaming. I can not imagine thinking that was colic - the baby was 6 months old.

Likely to be more information mid-week. The suspect is due in court Tuesday, I believe.

Didn't see anything on the court docket for Tuesday. Preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 20th. So sad. And as a parent with an infant this story has shaken me to my core. I hope that we hear more about this case in the coming weeks.

I hate that I just had to read that line. This is so sad.

That line was a hard one to read for me too. I just can not imagine what this poor little baby was going through. Heart breaking.

If anyone woudl feel comfortable discussing any interactions you have had with the owners (Kia Divband or his wife) of the daycare (Little Dreamers) - please think about contacting the detective on this case, this is her email address: beverley.then@montgomerycountymd.gov

There is something so wrong with this. When my boy was that age his mother and I knew every square millimeter of him. We would notice the smallest bruise or scratch. The severe (healing) injuries that are described do not seem to be something that any normal parent could possibly miss or ignore. Absolutely no way. Either something is being misreported or there are more arrests coming. That poor child.

Yes, it's quite possible that this child was abused at home and died at daycare from injuries she endured from her parents. So many multiple injuries in different stages of healing, I hope the truth comes out.

You realize that people who know the parents and baby are reading this thread, right? The funeral was today. Baby was lovely and happy every time I saw her. I'm not sure there will ever be a good answer.

And people reading this thread know and are friends with the accused. I can't imagine Kia would EVER do something like this. I have known him for over 25 years. There is something else happening here. Maybe not the parents, but maybe not Kia either.

Looks like he did some crowdfunding for the daycare. How does one go from being passionate to this. http://helpbuildalittledream.mydagsite.com/#.UxOblcHscpQ.facebook

I do remember reading a story about brittle bone, and a manwho was falsely accused in texas. https://gma.yahoo.com/video/rare-brittle-bone-disorder-mistaken-123150002.html

Were you there? Did you see the abuse? Do you know Kia?

As though knowing someone as a friend makes a difference. How many times have you seen in the news... I thought I knew this guy, I've know him all my life, etc. the police will not be making an arrest if there is no sufficient evidence

Anonymous wrote:ugh, i cant bring myself to read the story. I know there are good home based daycares, but please moms, do your due diligence. I read a post recently where a mom said a home daycare provider wouldnt provide references, and she asked if that was a red flag. Of course it is! And yet a bunch of moms chimed in and said, no it's fine! Back in the 70s, my mom had a job interview or something and sent me to a home based day care for the day. I distinctly remember the teacher giving us all tyelnol and putting us to "nap." I must have been 4. My mom never sent me there again.

This. Please get to know with whom you're leaving your child.
