Absolutely ill over this. Daycare provider in Rockville arrested for murder

So sad for that poor little defenseless baby. This happened a few blocks from my home and DD will be going to daycare for the first time next week. Feeling sick over this. Also wondering if there were any other victims of his abuse during his long history in daycare.

Can someone explain explain how licensing and inspections prevent this? Is it that people think because the day care is registered and that someone comes in to see that the house doesn't have obvious mouse droppings, the cleaners appear to be put away, and the kids are immunized- that the 364 other days of the year the kids are safe? Why? Once that door closes, it's anyone's guess what the hell goes on in there.

What was it that made you glad he had left?

The post article quoted an ASA saying divband is believed to be solely responsible for the injuries. How is that possible, given the extent of the injuries described and parents saying she was fine the night before???? This is a disturbing case.

During "back to school night" his approach to 3 YOs was too unscheduled. It was not my 1st going through the program and I knew the other teacher was really in charge so I did not care too much. But I would never had but my child in the class if he was a lead. He left early in the year pretty abruptly.

This man must have been perverted in some way?

I feel sick after reading about this and seeing it on the news last night. That poor baby had a fractured femur and bone in her arm. There is no way that is accidental. She must have been in extreme pain. The fact that all of them were in "various stages of healing" is scary- what the hell was going on. Bone healing in kids is faster than adults- but you'd still see significant swelling and the baby would be in a lot of pain-- so lots of crying. How could the parents not have noticed this?

I would NV rput my child in a home daycare. You have no idea who is in and out of there during the day. More people staff around means mor accountability. You get what you pay for

This article has a link to his resume. He managed to switch jobs, whether it was in ECE or something else, every year or so. Sometimes it was even sooner. Scary --there had to be a reason he was switching from one caregiver job to another so quickly. Either he actually hated the work but was stuck -- or the centers realized he was a dud. I'm sure Millie's poor parents had their reasons for choosing that home care but I wonder if they had chosen differently if they had seen his track record.

I don't know how well daycare centers treat their employees...

This is rare but things happen in licensed, unlicensed, and with the parents. Wackos every walk of life.

Licensing inspections make sure that you have all your paperwork in order a clean safe space. Sadly, licensed or unlicensed this could not be prevented by oversight. Unless, he had major red flags and his background check and fingerprinting. However, not all day cares are like this in fact most many, most of them are not. I run and in-home daycare and would never even consider harming any of the kids in my care. I love them and treat them with love and respect. I have seen a lot of bad day cares in the news. Be sure to get references and check up on them from time to time if you have any doubts. Good day cares are out there .

Sorry but my first thought was, I'd never do a home daycare. Second thought was, I'd never have a male child care provider.

Me too. But I still feel so sorry for those poor parents!!

Yes. I'm a bit ashamed, but I also thought no way in he'll I'd have a male childcare provider.
