MD here. CPR for infants is done with 2 fingers-not likely to cause all of those rib fractures. Also the majority of children with long bone fractures will have some swelling, pain, or other signs, such as decreased use of the extremity, suggesting a fracture. Some children, however, will have minimal external signs of injury. A parent may mistake crying as teething, colic or general fussiness( for instance) if there are not other signs of injury...

A parent knows their baby.  If they dropped a happy go lucky baby off at daycare and picked up a screaming colicky baby in the evening - they would know that something was wrong.  I would imagine that a baby with a broken arm is going to be holding that arm differently and every time they tried to use that arm (to hold a bottle or a teething ring or to self feed) there would be pain and screaming.  I can not imagine thinking that was colic - the baby was 6 months old.[/quote]
