Only for very few.

What do you mean? That most don't make it? Or that it's only prestigious if you are at a really top school?

Ignore judgey mcjudgerpants.

LOL, academia is a "prestigious and respected profession" only to idiot women. Academia is a career path that requires a ridiculous amount of educational time and spending only in hopes of getting a dwindling number of tenured positions. Not exactly worth the risk, but there are tons of idiots out there who don't want to work for a living, so they pursue academia.

My ideal catch: Handsome, good career, excellent manners and has a full amount of integrity too.

Someone who is of good moral character and treats ALL people with true respect regardless if they are strangers or friends.

Overall, someone who doesn't take relationships for granted. Someone who is willing and able to contribute his part to keeping a relationship hot.

Where are you at???? Lol.

+1 I married him

This thread and the one about what makes a woman a catch are depressing. It's no wonder so many marriages end in divorce.

I don't think there is one definition of a 'catch' for either sex. It's really about what set of characteristics and flaws work well with your characteristics and flaws because everyone has flaws and weaknesses. I'm usually a bit skeptical when people describe their spouses as perfect. There is no perfect human.

I dated a lot of wonderful guys who weren't quite right for me. My husband is wonderful in many ways, but he also has his issues -- as do I. The reason I married him is because in addition to there being a very strong attraction between us, our quirks mesh well together.

I think a lot of women and men end up unhappy and/or alone because they get some notion of what their ideal mate looks like on paper and they spend a lot of time looking for that. It's the entire person that matters and how well that person gels with you as a whole person.

It's fine to have some deal breakers (e.g., not wanting someone who lies or not wanting someone who cheats). But I think it's kind of foolhardy to put together a list, like you're creating some Frankenstein in a lab.

Just my 2 cents.

Yeah but you don't know that unless you are dating with a newborn, which is interesting.

You can tell which guys are inclined to do that. Duh.

Sometimes, sure. I know lots of women including myself who were unpleasantly surprised.

You'd make a fortune renting out your crystal ball.

No shit? This information suddenly gave me a new appreciative perspective on DH, who is 6' 2", makes mid 100s and is currently snoring on the sofa in a very boring way.

Did you really think there was tons of men on a grand population scheme of things that had both characteristics? On a venn diagram basis, it is a tiny fraction.

Just did a quick google survey, only 4% are 74" or taller -- my height; 40% of men are 6" or longer. Assuming height and penis size are independent (may be a bad assumption), that means that 6% of men would meat that criteria. More impressive (from my perspective), at 6'2", and 6.5", with the same assumptions, I am "bigger" than 98% of the world. I am also in the top 1% in intelligence, the top 7% of income in the US.

Idiot?

A guy seems pretty smart to me if he can pull down at least $70k and not actually "work for a living".

What do you suppose the proportion of men who fall asleep in front of the tv early in the evening might be? <curious>

These stats are meaningless for a woman in DC. It's relatively easy to find a high earning professional here with a nice sized penis.

LOL at men and penis math. Penis math doesn't really apply to women and the dating scene. Its not like they're out dating trolls.
