Will daughters be drafted?

To the PP above:

The point is we aren't equal at all. At any rate, the majority of females won't be able to pass the fitness test. So, it is a moot point.

Plus 100 to this! I don't think our daughters should register and this is the main reason why. When males and females are truly treated equally then we can talk about registering females. Until then NO WAY

Chicken and egg. Registering in the selective service is one of the steps to being treating equally. You can't pick some parts of being "treated equally" and not the other.

And equally caring for children and elderly parents is one of the steps in order for men to have any credibility at all when it comes to passing judgment about women. Step up or shut up.

You can't be serious. Comparing caring for children and elderly to being forced to go to a war field and lose your life. I know what I would choose anytime. One is elective, one is forced.

I can't be serious? You can't read. Where did I compare caring for children and elderly to going to war. Reread what I said dumbo.

There will be no draft. There are enough people who did nothing in high school or were born into poverty and don't have any options so they sign up for a government job called the military.

Since we haven't had a draft in 40 years - doubt we'd start now. But, yes, theoretically, there is no reason why girls shouldn't sign up for selective service. Although perhaps the child-bearing aspect of sending young girls off to fight and then not having anyone home to continue the species - but then I read WAY to many dystopic/sci-fi books.

Don’t quite understand your thinking. It takes two to continue the species - female AND male.

One man can impregnate hundreds. One woman can only have a small number of children.

Women have to have some skin in the game. Why should women be allowed to vote on sending just the men to fight and die?

Men should have some skin in the game related to childbirth. Why should only women have to suffer through pregnancy and childbirth?

yeah, and how come women can't pee standing up?

Who says women can't?

If the Israeli women don't get a pass, why should American women. Sure most of them Won't be special
Ops or commandos or marines, but they can still help in the war effort and hold a damn gun when needed.

You may not be able to carry your injured comatades to safety but you can still dig a damn trench.

what are the stats on current military enrolled ?

seems " the girls" have been signing up for decades.

In other words, NOT the issue.

The correct issue is allow those who have enlisted to serve in combat roles because combat dutu is require in order to advance to General, Admiral, Chief of Armed Forces....and THAT us what we really have our eye on, boys.

Got it. :)

This argument is ridiculous. Only a few people who have posted here suggest that women shouldn't register. Only 13.4% of the American male population has ever served in the military. So much for your chest thumping.

What an ignorant generalization.

Tell me how it isn't so. Who, officers and a small minority aside, serves in the US military? What is the demographic - not the outliers - what is the predominant demographic? Prove to me that I'm ignorant.

Presently, there are different male and female physical standards to serve in the military at all. Many combat jobs have a different, higher standard for applicants to meet. The standards are set to take into account the demands of the job. The safety of everyone in the unit depends on everyone in the unit having the physical abilities necessary. Whether you are male or female, for instance, you may have to pick up and carry the heaviest man in the unit and get him to safety.

Have you seen the pictures of the women at Ranger school? They are tough and cool, but I wouldn't say that most women could do what those women can do. Yes, many more can and will be trained to successfully compete for the toughest combat roles, but it will not be 50%.

With the epidemics of overweight and obesity, neither gender measures up. Only a microminority of each could qualify for the toughest jobs.

Look around at millennials: most of them are as heavy as 40-50 year olds already. It will only get worse unless the culture changes.

Weight standards alone would not and should not serve to exclude women under today's culture. Let them qualify if they can pass the tests.

Lots of women are very athletic. Look on any high school sports website and see how many girls are participating in varsity and jv sports. These are the girls who can move forward and qualify for military combat roles as young women. Women can be strong leaders in the military: they are already serving in all the non-combat branches, combat roles can allow them to progress to the highest leadership roles.

Well, you have to basically pass an IQ test to get into the military, so that will weed out a lot of the really stupid folks. It's been estimated based on AFQT scores that the average IQ for enlisted is around 105; or better than 65% of the people in the US. Enlisted in the military aren't the dregs of society you seem to think they are; they're just average folks (above average actually) that happen to want to serve their country.

Woman have already been in combat roles. As Tammy Duckworth said, she didn't lose her legs in a bar fight.

The difference is that now they get the medals and career bump that comes with the role.

Thank you, pp. This is true. My son, college educated, decided to enlist after college. Why? He wanted to serve his country and by enlisting, he was able to choose the MOS he wanted. Had he gone in as an officer, that wouldn’t have happened. There are lots of others like him.
