Ultimately if there is true equality in the military combat arms branches women will be tested and measured with precise equality by the realities of warfare.
They will measure up or they will die--just like the men. Equality is not always everything it is cracked up to be. |
If less well- qualified women are permitted in combat due to social justice notions of equality of opportunity, and lower standards due to gender, then proportionally more women then men will die on the battlefield, as they will be less able to withstand its rigors. Undoubtedly that too will be deemed a form of insidious discrimination by Obama and his ilk. Discrimination or not, those women will be just as dead. |
WWII. She was Ukrainian, and looks like the star of an action movie. |
The Marine Corps, which resisted this change, is sticking to same standards. The line the social engineers are taking is that the 'standards are outdated' so the standards should be changed. Welcome to Obama land. |
Says you? I don't agree that equality is not always everything it is cracked up to be. Those words can only be spoken by someone who doesn't have to worry about being equal. I do think women should register for the draft. I do know that we haven't had a draft since the 1970's. I do know that there have been enough people to cover the demand for military personnel so it's likely that no one will be drafted - neither men nor women. I do find the attitude toward woman in this thread really sad. There is a lot of anger and resentment toward women. Just starting the thread was a provocative gesture and could be construed as a desire to incite fear and anger. |
Are you suggesting that people who want equality want things to be easy? |
| PP I think there is a lot of sadness that our military, the best in the world, is being manipulated for political purpose. It is not fair to the men or women who serve. When actual male and female lives, and the safety of our country, are on the line--the mission comes first. |
If there have been enough people to cover the demand, why has the US resorted to stop-loss policies over the years? |
Right. Having women in the military works during peace. Once there's a real war people will want women at home with children. |
| Women shouldn't have to be in combat because women have never started a war. Men start wars and kill people frequently. Just watch the news. The business of killing is a male oriented business and for a reason. |
This is probably the lamest excuse I have read yet. I think the example set by Tashfeen Malik kind of blows your “theory.” The business of killing is not gender-specific. |
Women haven't started as many, but yes women have started some. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_women_who_led_a_revolt_or_rebellion |
| Women shouldn't be in combat, because research shows they lower effectiveness. That is the alpha and the omega. (I'm a woman btw). |
I happen to agree with you. But, as long as the government thinks they belong in combat (you know, equality for all), they should register for the selective service. (I am also a woman and the mother of a daughter) |
