I think the way they treat them is VERY different. Maybe do a little reading on this before posting such nonsense. |
Agreed with the above poster...the two couldn't be more dissimilar. Ever heard of slavery? Because that is kind of what you will be treated like if you are unfortunate enough to be borne into the lowest caste. I don't think america has anything remotely close to that. Please don't compare a housekeeper and a maid here in the U.S to a house servant in india, they have far more rights here. Similar job =/= similar circumstances. |
QED. |
The lowest caste in India are not house servants. They are considered the "untouchables" because they clean public sewers. |
I dont recall the last time an owner raped or beat his nanny here in the U.S and got away with it...it happens all the time in india. Sadly, many of these poor people go to other countries in search of money to support their families, and experience the same discrimination there...they can't win anywhere it seems. |
I think Indian-american guy above is telling the truth. Most Indian- American men do not go to strip clubs. So, he genuinely may not know if some Indian-American men go to strip clubs. (Plus, he is so sincere and can vouch for entire clan! A lovable Indian trait. ![]() But, I believe that there are stripclubs and that they are visited by Indian and Indian-American men. So, all the posters I have tagged by green smiley faces (henceforth referred to as MG or Mr. Green) are probably telling the truth. If the MG posters are guys - they are either visiting the strip clubs as customers, or are bouncers at the clubs, or are club owners or the featured acts. They are actually commenting on Indian behaviour (hello, two dudes going together to a strip club and making sure they get their money's worth - an Indian trait of camaraderie and frugality. They probably split the cost of gas as well on the way to the club. Another smart Indian trait!) If the MG posters are women - they are probably are the featured acts. You see, many American women work in strip clubs to 1) either pay their college bills because the parents don't or 2) since they were poor students in school this is the only job they can get. Did you notice the one who mentioned "meeting Indian men in seeking arrangements?". That one is definitely a sex worker. In contrast - Indian men have probably gone to college, have advanced degrees and high incomes. They can spend some cash on naked white women. Is this cheating if they are married men? I think the answer is a bit more complicated. Well, since Indian men love sex a lot(Hello? Kamasutra?) and love watching naked women and none of the Indian-American women are working as strippers (since their parents paid for their Ivy Education in STEM fields and they are brilliant because of their genes, parental involvement and Goddess Saraswati), and Sunny Leone is now in India - they have no choice to come to American strip clubs. Because the taste of Indian men run towards a bit more voluptuous women and not stick figure plastic Barbie dolls, they are really just making do. Also, they are spreading their wealth around a bit, because they can afford it (Thanks to Goddess Laxmi), and they really do not want the economy to go to the dogs. I rest my case. |
Low caste people in India are treated horrifically but please let's not forget this country actually had slavery not too long ago, a permanent underclass now and life isn't exactly a first class bowl of cherries for migrant farmworkers and other immigrants. |
There I fixed it |
Can we not compare something that happened 200 years ago in the U.S to something that is happening now? It was abolished for a reason. |
Ha ha -- hilarious! I just wanted to add to the bolded that they probably snuck in paratha rolls and cans of Coke to save some money on the food. |
Fair point. Let's talk about White policemen killing Black people and the resultant backlash. There is no movement in India right now that says #LowCasteLivesMatter. I rest my case. |
First, it wasn't exactly 200 years ago. Second, the effects of it have resulted in a permanent underclass that fed, distracted and disproportionately imprisoned enough to prevent outright rebellion. Third, you didn't address the treatment of immigrant workers. |
Seriously? 150 years ago*, fixed. Stop comparing black people to the lowest caste people in india. Last I checked, black people still have the same rights as everyone else now...you are comparing apples to oranges, it won't work. I don't need to address migrant workers because I'm responding to the person that brought up slavery as a comparison. I think its best if we keep illegal immigrant's out of this (if that is what you are getting at), because if you are not a legal citizen you should not have the same rights by default. Otherwise what is the point of citizenship? If you are talking about legal migrant workers, many of them do well for themselves, even better than nonimmigrants in many cases. Neither example is similar to the 'untouchables' who, unlike blacks and migrants, are not allowed to better themselves even if they are willing to put in the work for it. |
I should also add that being poor is a very different issue. A migrant worker can come here with nothing and work his ass off and make something of himself. One of our family friends came to the U.S as a cab driver, now 20 years later he owns businesses all over the DMV area and is making millions. In american People care less about where you came from and more about what you make of yourself.
In India, a low caste person can possibly make money for themselves and do well, but they still can't get rid of the stigma associated with their caste...it's a very different mindset. |
Insufferable. You know you're making Indian people look bad , right? |
