hiding holiday weight gain

This thread has inspired me to make healthy choices all weekend. Yikes, OP, sorry.

Nah, more than 1-2 lbs of the OP's gain could definitely be water weight. My scale weight fluctuates by a lot more than that just over a single menstrual cycle, and I can assure you I'm not gaining and losing 5-8 lbs of fat every single month.

OP, a simple thing to try: up your water intake. Generally on a daily basis, but also try drinking a bunch before you go to an event, or while you're there. The extra water will help to get rid of any fluid retention, and may also help keep you from over drinking/overeating if you're already feeling full.

Anonymous wrote:Yeah, after this thread, I talked myself onto the scale yesterday and it's pretty bad. I know I weighed around 141 in early October and I weighed 163 this morning (I'm between 5'6 and 5'7). I don't think it's a medical issue because I recognize I've been really overdoing it (mmmmm....fudge....).

Does anyone have bra advice? I have perma-cleavage and am sort of threatening to pop out of my bras but would rather not buy new bras because I plan to lose the weight in the new year. What's the minimal amt of new stuff I can get away with buying?

In what world is 141 size 4?

I'm 141 now (PPT so I'm 15 lbs over normal) and I'm a size 10 at 5'6". I've got big boobs too (size E) so it's not all in my tummy and thighs, either.

At your current weight, I think you're more like a size 12?

I'm 5'7 168 and a size 10. Peoples bodies are different. At 140 I'm a 6.
- not OP

And I am 5'9" and a size 6 at 153. So a size 4 at 141 wouldn't be out of the question.

I know I will be accused of lying, but I am 5' 6" and 180 as of this morning and I am an 8-10. I share clothes with my friends that are around 140. There are huge variations in body composition. This is a useless game to play.

I am 5'6" and 143lbs. I wear a 4, which has to be tailored in the waist to about a 2. I am a powerlifter and have a very large amount of muscle mass, especially in my thighs.

It really is. I'm 5'10, 165 and wear an 8 or a 10. There is just no telling how an individual piece of clothing will vary from one person to another.

I am 5'7", 150lbs and I am shocked that I have gotten to this point. None of my clothes fit. On a positive note I have recently lost 5 lbs, but it was a battle and I can't imagine continuing the battle through the holidays to lose the additional 20 pounds I would like to lose.

OP, it happened to me really fast also!

Get the stomach flu. Seriously, I never want to look at food again.

OP back: Did not get through the holidays without picking up a few more pounds (I'd say how much but I'm embarrassed enough-- let's just say I wasn't restrained at all these past two weeks) but I'm back home and decided my holiday season has officially ended and it's time to buckle down.

I managed to go for a five mile run before work today so I'm off to a good start. My stomach jiggled like the proverbial bowl full of jelly all run but my time wasn't bad.

Shocker - bodies are built differently. You probably don't have a lot of muscle mass?

At 185 (and 5'3"), I was a solid size 14. Sometimes 12, but mostly 14.

I'm now 128-130lbs, and a pretty solid size 4. I could probably size down to a 2, if it weren't for my thunderous, strong quads and hams. I workout and exercise daily, including running, resistance and weight bearing exercises. I'm still about 22% body fat according to a gizmo some trainer used on me at the gym.

Numbers MAY give you a ballpark idea of how someone carries themselves or size, but it can vary tremendously from person to person.

Hi guys,

Op following up to let you know how it's going. Ultimately the damage was pretty bad-- I wound up gaining 31 pounds between the beginning of October and the end of December. Yep, not pretty. However I've been really focused on healthy eating and exercise since Jan 1 and have lost 7 pounds (probably a lot of water). I know the rest will be harder to get off but I'm encouraged by the fast start!

Good for you, OP! I meant to be healthier after the holidays but given the extreme cold I've been sedentary and am pretty sure my pants are getting tighter.

Wow that's a scary velocity of weight gain, YIKES.

Op...that is awesome!

A couple of great websites for people trying to eat better are skinny taste and emily bites. Both give you ww pts. I would say 90% of my meals come from these sites and my family loves the food!

Touching base again-- down 11 pounds as of the end of January but man, this is a hard road. Learn from my folly!
