hiding holiday weight gain

Cut out all carbs starting today. You'll be down 5 pounds in 2 weeks and will feel much better in about 5 days.

Can't really do this before xmas/nye. I have a bunch of parties to go to and my husband's family are food=love people. I'll give it a shot Jan 1 tho.

To the other PP, yikes about sizing. My clothes really, really aren't fitting (have exploded buttons on shirts while getting dressed, yikes) but I think because it's mostly belly and boobs, some pants still go on, etc.

OP... don't worry about the people that are lecturing you. We have all been there. I'm a small person, so 5 lbs on me probably looks a lot like 15 lbs on someone else. And right now, I know I am 5 lbs up because of halloween candy/thanksgiving/baked goods for christmas/my husband and daughter's birthdays/life in general. Clothes are snug and I know that weight loss will likely occur only after the new year. In fact, this is not the first time I'm a little up this time of year, and it won't be the last. And honestly, I'm so surprised people are so shocked by it. It happens people, and it's not a huge deal! Doesn't mean you are a fatty!

Spanx are my friends! That and looser sweaters/leggings/jeggings/cardigans that are darker than my shirt to give the slimming effect. Current fashion is actually very forgiving I think. There are a lot of high waisted pants that kind of slim your tummy. I have been eating salads at lunch and that has been helping curb the weight gain. Then when I'm treating myself, I'm REALLY treating myself.

Like some pps said, I'm bookmarking this for the schadenfreude.

OP, with any luck, you're pretty bloated and a lot of its water weight. If you don't want to cut carbs now, try drinking a lot of water and hitting the gym to drop some of the bloat. Also, I find that when I drink more, it goes disproportionately to my tummy. I'd be careful about waiting till the new year to diet because you're digging yourself deeper into the hole.

Wrapdresses are good if you want to show off your new found abundance but they will sort of play up your new curves rather than play down them. I think highwaisted pants and loose tops are a safer choice.

Just get yourself a new bra.

This. I know that Op has said that she can't do this right now with holiday parties coming. But if you really need to drop pounds in the right places FAST - this is the way to do it.

I think the kinder people are ignoring the fact that OP has gained over 15% of her body weight in 2 months, and gone from a healthy weight to being overweight.

Clothing advice: My postpartum clothing routine (not when bfing) was tummy control spanx, whole body spanx, looser pre pregnancy clothes. I think OP could get away with this-- just buy some new bras and layer some spanx. It's not comfortable but doubling up the spanx around the middle reigns in the appetite a lot.

Thanks, am hoping a lot of it's water weight. I'm very jiggly in front when I walk which makes it feel like bloat to me.

Also, between this thread, my weigh in this morning, the daily struggle to get into my clothes and the fact my desk is segmenting my belly, I'm feeling really really eager to get on this in the new year. How quickly do you think I can (healthily) lose the weight?

I'm so jealous of women who gain in their hips and thighs-- it looks much more subtle/feminine.

...And there are snickerdoodles in the office. FML (laugh with me not at me).

Portion control is key.

I feel like in past years I've been able to indulge a little bit at this time of year without blowing up like this. I just turned 30- could that be the issue?

I lost weight because I skipped meals if I ate cookies or candy

Did you gain weight in your vag or something? Why did your camel toe become more pronounced?

This is how most obese women start out. In denial that they can just take it off when they're done overeating. OP, you'll go up 15lbs, and lose 5 this year. Then up 15 and lose 5 next year....and so on. In just a decade you will be up 100lbs.

This is very typical when you don't change your eating habits for all 12 months of the year. Sorry for the lecture but I'm sure an obese person will tell you the same story of how they got there.

OMG, crazy folks - according to BMI she is 3 lbs overweight. 3 LBS!!! Yes, it's a lot to gain in a short period, but it isnt like she's taking up two plane seats at 5'7 and 163.
