I think your mistake is thinking there's some pending return to "normal life" that will make losing weight easy. It's never easy and there's no such thing as "normal life" so you have to push yourself to make good choices when it's hard-- or accept you are going to be kind of chunky. You can try to hide with with highwaisted pants (squish/hold the tummy in), a loose top, and an top front blazer. A long necklace can elongate and draw the eye up and down which is slimmer. Putting your hair up can make your face/neck look thinner. |
Eh honestly when ever I see an adult woman showing more up top than she usually does I assume she's trying to distract from her tummy. Watch out for boob muffin tops too. My husband doesn't feel the same, of course. |

I can't say that my jeans have been going on easily this past month, but this thread is giving me so much schauldenfreude.
So I'm not a total ass, OP, try some wrap dresses. They play up your chest and skim over your belly. They're also adjustable, so if you lose weight (or pickup more weight during xmas and new years, which would continue to make me feel better about myself) they should still fit. Banana Republic has a nice cotton one called the Gemma. The flared skirt can also help make your waist look narrower. |
| Good considerations above, because no offense, OP, but the odds are against you losing the weight. |
| OP again. Look, I get that I overdid it. I appreciate the fashion advice but can we skip the lectures? |
|
OP the fact is that you can't really hide a 15+ pound rapid weight gain.
This becomes readily apparent when I look at pictures of myself in college. Are you drinking a lot? That can really pack weight on, especially around the middle. |
| Yeah unfortunately I have a real weakness for stouts and champagne (and I can take or leave eggnog but have had a few glasses of that too). I feel like I've gotten away with it in the past though. |
|
I'm also 10-15 lbs overweight after having a baby three months ago. I'm trying like crazy to lose the weight (am not BFing so that's not a concern) but in the meantime, honestly, I looked and felt much better after buying a pair of jeans and a few sweaters in the next size up. I feel like it's much less obvious that I've gained weight now that my clothes fit, even if they're bigger clothes.
|
| It's hysterical how in denial OP is. |
| I mean, I described my torso as a water balloon. I'm admitting I got fat. Idk how that counts as denial. |
Oh, honey... |
| Broke my diet to have fondue at a holiday party, this thread is making me feel a lot better. |
| I don't know if it's even possible to gain 15+ pounds that quickly. Have you gone to a dr? |
|
Yeah, after this thread, I talked myself onto the scale yesterday and it's pretty bad. I know I weighed around 141 in early October and I weighed 163 this morning (I'm between 5'6 and 5'7). I don't think it's a medical issue because I recognize I've been really overdoing it (mmmmm....fudge....).
Does anyone have bra advice? I have perma-cleavage and am sort of threatening to pop out of my bras but would rather not buy new bras because I plan to lose the weight in the new year. What's the minimal amt of new stuff I can get away with buying? |
| I'm kind of amazed you haven't had to buy a whole new wardrobe. Generally 8-10 pounds=one clothing size, one bra size. I'd expect you to be 2-3 sizes up. |
