New landon family

The thug or lax bro culture onto Landon is unfair since a majority of kids at that school are good kids and most are not lacrosse players. But Landon always seems to fail to help itself out PR wise when they are confronted. For example, we know a local family whose kid was expelled in the Landon SAT scandal. Years later the family has not gotten over how badly Landon handled it. Their son made a mistake and paid for it. Landon redacted all of their son's sporting or other accomplishments from the website, including all references to him being rostered and listed as a letter winner. They scrubbed out all references to his musical participations and accomplishments. Their son was banned from attending any event on campus including private club sports teams that rented fields to play at Landon. Ok, mistake and expulsion and a price paid. But Landon piled on. Among the other equal offenders at Landon in the SAT scandal were lacrosse players and one was also a son of a lacrosse coach. Those students had a very different and not a permanent punishment. It seems Landon is a lax bro island from the Board of Trustees all down to through the school administrators. What school would redact all reference to a kid expelled in 12th grade who'd gone through their lower and middle schools, but keep all past family history of the Huguely's on their website? Even UVa showed some taste and discretion to redact George Huguely's references on championship teams and took pictures down after the incident. Is it too important to Landon to keep George IV's lacrosse accomplishments list out and undisturbed all things considered? Oh wait, I forgot, nobody tells Landon what to do and of you don't like it don't come through the gated entrance.

Well put. Landon Crisis Management 101 is when sh$& hits the fan, Armstrong writes a soothing letter to the community which is a no mea culpa. Then comes Tiger the lax bro board of trustees guy who is also a kill or be killed litigator who assures everyone that a lawyers up Landon will prevail. And then come the public relations firm hired guns to manage and counterpunch the morass out of a Washingtonian or Washington Post article. This is a private school that is happy to be as detached and isolated from the community around it as possible. Nothing wrong with having the "leave us alone and please go away" mentality of a men's only golf club, but people should remember that it is not a place to play 18, it should've a place to instill values in kids. When the adults can't provide that environment and tolerate things with a double standard it cheapens the institution.

We are new to Landon. I guess time will tell if we share these concerns about the administration, but so far, we are very impressed with the school and my son is extremely happy there. FWIW

Good luck, PP. Stay aware of what's going on with the school and especially within DSs class. 9th grade (or earlier) is a good time to transfer out if you decide to do so.

I really don't think Landon cares or independent school in this area cares much about what is said about them on some anonymous website. The bashing / trolling on this website is quite bizare.

Doesn't strike me as bizarre. After checking the school website I think it is pretty bizarre shocking that a high profile murderer is still celebrated as a graduate. These threads are a forum for discussion, and after all you are posting on it. I am sure you are right that Landon does not care about what anyone else thinks and the schools apparent position on the Huguely family is set.

if it bothers you so much, why don't you just email the communications office at ask them. clearly you are trolling around on this website and trying to stir the pot! Did you ever think maybe they didn't know George Huguely was still on the website or most liely the school feels it has nothing to do with the Love tragedy down at UVA.

USC still acknowledges the accomplishments of OJ Simpson - but I don't think anyone would be dumb enough to suggest that they "celebrate" him as a graduate.

As recent as 2009 Georgie IV was one of the lead fundraisers for the schools capital campaign. I'll grant you that was a year prior to junior killing his ex-girlfriend, but honestly, this does not merit some scrubbing out? Landon pretends other kids disciplined with expulsion are removed from all mention for their attendance and their accomplishments were removed. The non lacrosse players selectively expelled from their SAT cheating scandal were humiliated and scrubbed out from record but the ones who participated in the same acts were left be to graduate in good standing. USC removed OJ Simpson's jersey, picture and other articles from display at the school, and same for Reggie Bush. What is Landon supposed to do? Clearly Landon isn't supposed to be listening to anyone who isn't going to help them beat Prep in a lacrosse game.

You know a harvard recent harvard grad who graduated from a public schoool in Montgomery country was sentenced to 8 years in jail yesterday, for molesting a student who he tutored and mentored. He was a quince orchard grad.

Last summer a gonzaga high school alum killed an elderly couple on July 4th in Dewey beach in a drunken accident on coastal highway.


All of these episodes are terrible, tragedies, and I wish all of them could have been avoided.To finger point blame on a particular school is just wrong.

You know the boston marathon bomber was currently a grad student at harvard or MIT. So I guess anyone who goes to MIT is a crazy terrorist. And I guess every student and alum at from landon is some drunken thug.

Since this started as a new Landon family thread, just a quick note to the "new Landon family" from a few posts ago - I agree with most posters assessment of Landon, but you should stay off this forum. Learn the history of this school on your own. Keep your eyes open.

You are wrong about USC and OJ Simpson. His Heisman trophy is still on display and his name is still in the record books, which is what you are complaining about with regard to Huguely the killer. The other references to Huguely that you linked to are his father. I gather you believe Landon should disassociate from the Huguely family entirely. I guess Landon doesn't agree - just as Harvard still includes Ted Kazcynski on their class reunion invites.
