Classic Landon deflection technique. When confronted with Landon's reputation for producing boys who get in trouble, resort to, "Everyone else has the same problem".

The difference is nobody else has the volume and consistency of embarrassing incidents as Landon.

Look at 11:23. The behavior/attitudes toward women so clearly on display in the NFL by the smug commissioner and the players alike are attitudes fostered by schools like Landon.

I doubt Landon families care too much about the rants on DCUM, but for any who might, pause for a moment and think about the incidents that supposedly involve “Landon.” They have all occurred off campus and in the case of Huguley years after he completed his four years at Landon. The other two top boy schools have had both pedophile on campus and gun on campus issues in the recent past. As a parent my greatest concern was always the safety of my DS at those times that I couldn't be there. At some point you have to entrust your child to the care of others and the track record of a school when it comes to campus safety was always of utmost importance to me.

Nobody at Landon cares about anything negative stated or questioned. Right. Any comment on this or other threads is met with immediate replies and defensive comments.

Most if not all the replies seem to be discussing the

"classic Landon deflection technique"
"the boys they prodcue"
"the number of incidents"

the other comments are from families who are there and are happy with the school.

You seem to be on a mission to get some "real figthing" going on this thread.

We really get it. You hate the school, the environment is terrible, parents that send their kids there are terrible and you won't be sending your boy there.

Is there anything else?

It’s not difficult to understand the enmity toward Landon reflected in this forum:

Landon is a male dominated school; DCUM is a female dominated forum

Landon places an emphasis on a fraternal-like Brotherhood; DCUM abhors fraternal organizations

Landon is seen as a school when jocks are preeminent; DCUM moms seem to have non-athletic boys

Landon draws from outside the DCUM bubble

Those curious about Landon should take this forum for what it is – a place to vent. That said, if you hate men, fraternal organizations and athletics, you shouldn't even consider Landon.

Spoken like a Landon boy. Clueless and oblivious. Classic. Although brotherhood with a capital B is a little creepy. If you want your son to spout garbage like this, just send him to Landon.

I really love the school. New parent. If you told me I would send my son there 10 years ago, I would have told you were smoking crack. I am a convert. My son is very happy and so are we. Some things you just have to experience.

It seems like there's a person or a small group that have a major grudge against Landon and pile in with the same accusations, comments, etc. on any thread where Landon is brought up.

It takes energy to keep up that level of anger, so there must be something motivating it. Do those of you who are constantly deriding Landon have some personal experience that causes you to be so angry at the school?

^^^of course. And there are many of us. Entitled male privilege is no longer tolerated by most people. That is why we find Landon so objectionable.

It would greatly simplify things if Landon would relocate the campus to Augusta, Georgia and have the town zone it as part of Augusta National Golf Club. There isn't anything really wrong with boys' or mens' clubs, so long as it is as rural and backwater as possible. Landon has such a long history of women or minority teachers leaving with disputes or jarring accuses. I have a hard time believing that the pattern is just a string of isolated incidents because there has been such a high number of them for so many years. I also don't believe that the nature of the average school teacher is morally capable of just creating a stir and making up lies about an institution like Landon because they have decided or were compelled to leave. Every teacher or employee there KNOWS Landon has a very confrontational and litigious history when facing anything negative onto the school, and when teachers still decide at their peril to take on Landon for doing things sexist, racist or otherwise wrong it said it all for us as a then minority family at Landon. Landon had some great educators and this is not a statements about the kids at the school. Our son had wonderful friends and we met delightful family friends in Landon parents. I think to cast Landon as a blight and a thug factory is completely unfair. But it is very palpable, very clear and very obvious that the leadership of this school is manning a cave. Ask the wrong question, make someone in a position of power at that school a little uncomfortable -- especially if you are a person of color or ethnicity -- and start the egg timer. Suddenly you don't hear back from teachers when your kid is struggling in a class. Then you don't get emails confirming your financial aid renewal forms are in, or any financial aid notices. Then you don't get a renewal contract for your kid to attend the next year, or any returned phone calls from the school officials when your son comes home asking if he is enrolled next year. In sum, my son was an average kid with average grades. He did sports each semester on school teams and loved his friends. There were no discipline problems with our son. We attended every event and volunteered for every event offered. We did not participate in the capital campaign because we could not afford to. I made one comment to a teacher about missed homework not being communicated to us as parents which impacted our son's final semester grade which also was not well taken and was escalated to the school deans and headmaster. I had one follow on meeting with a school official and politely repeated my concerns and the official who had a Landon lawyer present thanked me and said he would be back to me. That was the last we ever heard from him or anyone else in a leadership capacity at Landon.

I thought carefully about posting this, but after a lot of consideration believe it is fair to present to new Landon parents. I do feel for the school to have a former student behavior repeated years later, and as some other posters noted every school has a sad problem with a kid who made mistakes in life. But Landon has very deep institutionalized problems that are not a part of this new century.

New family here as well. I am extremely pleased with my son's experience there thus far, and I am so fricking greatful to not be part of the Montgomery County Public School System. It's great being at a place where teachers smile, encourage and engage rather than sit behind their desk at shop online.

Another new family with good things to report from the lower school. Other parents have been friendly and the teachers and administrators have been responsive. Some teachers are strict, some are softer - it is a really good mix. My biggest gauge is that my son is happy to go to school, and comes home excited to tell us about his day and his teachers and what he has learned.
