Fairmont Mayakoba won’t refund

Not every single tourist has to be murdered for a place to be dangerous - crime occurs on a spectrum, and there's plenty of it in Mexico, a country where cartels control a third of the territory. Want to take risks in return for a cheap vacation? Your prerogative, but the risks are there.

We go to the Rosewood Mayakoba every year. It is incredibly well guarded and safe, from the moment you step off the plane. I would still go (and will be going this year!).

Sorry you are too cheap to vacation somewhere without gang violence.

So it’s like DC and Chicago?

Not going there either. Or NYC

NYC?! I live here and it's so safe. I literally walk around at night with headphones in.

Lol. We will read headlines about you.

You're all so silly. My senior citizen sibling and spouse are vacationing in Mexico as we speak. I just texted to see how they're doing. "Sheltering in place?" I joked. The response: "No, we have joined the cartel. F*** you gringos!"

We went to Cancun a couple of times in the 2000s. Stayed at a great boutique hotel on the beach. Taxi pulled up. Armed guards with AK15s. Great place but even so...but they were ready.

DCUM is terrified of anything not Costa Rica, Grand Cayman, and Bethany Delaware.

So you’re basically vacationing in a fancy prison. Sounds lovely.

Now do the US. We're dangerous AND expensive

If Canada would take me, I’d go.

Whenever I see this, I wonder how much the person actually knows about Canada.

Don’t encourage this. It reflects poorly on you.

I don’t think you know what a “prison” is…

Costa Rica is less safe than most of Mexico.
