Fairmont Mayakoba won’t refund

Fairmont Mayakoba is near Cancun. They are nowhere near Jalisco or Puerta Vallarta side of Mexico, on the Pacific side of Mexico. I would still go.

Any thoughts on how to deal with this? We are not inclined to bring our two kids to Mexico at this point.

It wasn’t a good idea when you booked either. Oh well, now you know.

I agree. My family refuses to travel anywhere in Mexico for any reason bc of cartels. Our friends think we are insane and frequently travel to all the tourist hotspots all over Mexico. They rave about the gorgeous resorts etc. Not worth it to me.

It’s like saying you’re worried about the Malibu wildfires during your vacation to a resort in Florida.

Cancun airport is a disaster right now, even if you think the resort is fine. Plus you have to get to Mayakoba from the airport. How?

Yeah and you can get private airport transfer from hotel to resort and not need to leave the Mayakoba complex.

I’m with you. I won’t go either. It sad actually. Close, warm, culture, beautiful I am sure - but nope. I’ve been traveling for 25 (since adulthood) and won’t go there. There have even too many incidents.

Did you get the cheaper nonrefundable prepaid rate? Did you not buy trip insurance? Which credit card did you use? You need to look into this.
This is why you must buy trip insurance whenever you go outside the US. This is also in case your GOD forbid et injured and need to get a medical flight out.

I’ll give you ten cents on the dollar if you wanna fire sale me your reservation. Deal?

-Talk to your credit card company
-See if you can push your reservation out X weeks/months, once the situation has settled you may be inclined to go or they might also let you cancel later
-Post on SM tagging them, I bet fairmont corp would be interested to know they are doing this
-Charge back using the travel advisory

Nah. I’d do a rental car from the airport, that way you can explore Yucatán too.
