Every large and medium city in flyover has great food and has for years. Minnesota has very sophisticated Vietnamese, Thai etc. Of course smaller less populated areas don’t but that’s true of almost any smaller community, including coastal states. Have you ever eaten in upstate NY? |
I did. 1/17 16:26. |

| As a New Englander, I say, of course we're parochial! Thr adventurous ones among us headed West in the 1800s! |
No it’s not! It’s simply a preference for blander flavors, less texture and aversion to learning techniques new to them. |
Same here only to rural eastern NC, which getsa the same disrespect 'flyover' areas do. I couldn't be happier. The people are the kindesat you'd ever meet and extremely generous. IDGAF that they voted for Trump. Theses are rule following goos manners people. I was gone until late last night and when I came home my 200 yard gravel drive way and been scraped and leveled. My neigbors was too so I texted him. His response? " Well, I was already doing mine so I thought I might as well do yours too! Should be good for another 5 years." That's just the type of people we have down here. Good luck finding that attitude in Arlington. |

I never experienced that in DC, but I heard it all the time in NYC. Typically the offenders were not born and raised in NYC but in the suburbs (“bridge and tunnel,” to use another classist phrase I don’t like). So I guess they were overcompensating.
“Flyover” cities like Cleveland or Dallas have fantastic museums, theaters, ballets etc. I still choose to stay on the east coast but anyone who is a snob about those cities doesn’t know what they’re talking about. I would choose Cleveland over suburban NY state any day! |
LOL. So true. |
We have great neighbors in Arlington, sorry you didn't. |
Rural eastern NC? What type of culture do you have there? Are you talking about the Outer Banks or inland? |
Are you implying coastal NC has no culture? LOL. I had no idea this was a forum for ignorant morons! |
What a complete load of sanctimonious crap. You are very ignorant and judgmental. Preference for blander flavors is based on economics and climate. For much of the 20th century families in the midwest didn’t have access to imported or spicy ingredients because of cost and climate. Peppers and herbs don’t grow in your garden anymore at -15°. People would spend winters eating canned food preserves of beets and greek beans and heavy cream because that’s what they had. The climate lends itself towards hearty meals that warm you up after working your ass off all day long. Things like bread and cheese and pasta and canned soup. All northern cultures across the globe have a cultural trend towards different ingredients due to these same reasons and it’s not because the people are dumb and boring. |
Besides hunting, fishing and football? |
I’m in Arlington and we all pitch in on our block. We have porch parties, bring in each others’ mail etc. when someone is traveling, shovel the older people’s driveways, share tools, etc. Sorry you didn’t have that ecperience but many of my friends in ARL have experienced the same. When I lived in Upstate NY my neighbors told my not to sell to black people. |
So you think the Midwest doesn’t have a lot of immigrants? You ever been to the Midwest? |
