Family Relationships
The people I know who voted for Trump are extremely unsophisticated. They didn’t go to college, they have never traveled internationally, they don’t personally know immigrants, they don’t follow politics very closely, and they could not articulate either candidates’ proposed policies or explain their potential impact. They live in red areas and almost everyone they know is a Republican and they literally can’t conceive of voting for a Democrat. They couldn’t tell you 3 things Biden did as President without resorting to Fox News’ talking points: open borders, rising inflation, putting biological males in girls’ sports. They have no knowledge of actual policies. They have attended Christian houses of worship their entire lives, but willingly voted for a man who has not lived and does not currently live his life in accordance with fundamental Christian principles and doesn’t seem all that familiar with Christian doctrine (or any other religion’s) — yet they inexplicably claim that Trump “has been good for the Church,” whatever that means. They have never heard of any of Trump’s grifting because they don’t follow news sources that report on it. They believe that Trump is the uber successful businessman portrayed by his character on The Apprentice, and have no idea that over the course of his career at the helm of the Trump Organization, he lost more money than he made and ended up poorer than if he had conservatively invested the money his father gave him and never started a business. They think he understands the global economy, even though he doesn’t know how tariffs work (they don’t either) and he doesn’t understand basic math well enough to know that he can’t reduce drug prices by 650-1,000%. |
Look up Brunswick Maine Town Council's Jan 2022 vote to reinstate masks.... masking was also required in schools through spring 2022. |
Jan 2022 was the largest COVID surge in the history of the pandemic so far. Reinstating masks when something like 1 out of every 15 people was infected was rational action, or every school would have had to shut down for weeks. |
|
The Trump administration is ripping the Constitution to shreds and republicans think it’s important whether or not Brunswick Maine required masks in 2022. Take some deep breaths, take a moment to reflect, and please focus on what’s important! |
All discussion re masks need to end now, since it is fine to mask in 2025 under the felon, especially if you plan to rough people up. Debate over. Do not discuss. Masks are no longer an issue. |
good for your kids to not do what you always s want. You should be proud you raised independent thinkers no matter who they vote for. |

Will say all the conservative and MAGA and centrists and Independents I know who voted for Trump don't get upset when family and friends voted for Biden or Harris. Annoyed? Sure. Sometimes understanding? Sure. But they don't cancel you out of Thanksgiving.
But Democrats really take it deeply personally. And consistently, stubbornly refuse to even begin to try to understand why people voted for Trump despite the periodic woe is me cries on here. To OP, my advice is get over it. Other people have their right to their views. And guess what, it doesn't mean they're wrong. And elections do have consequences. They always do. You voted for politicians that had consequences for other people but you didn't care, did you? In short, get over it. |
Dp. Proud? I don't think so! |
And this type of attitude is one reason why the “uneducated” voted for Trump. There are a lot of people who would love to be “educated” and have access to the opportunities that a diploma allows, but they just can’t afford it. Which makes it all the more galling when they’re told their taxes need to pay off the college loans for people whose degrees offer them not only a wider selection of jobs, but access to jobs that tend to be higher paying. Then when they complain that they can’t afford to put food on their tables, they are told by the experts that inflation isn’t really a problem and that their “educated” opinion should naturally be given more credence than the “uneducated’s” own lived experience, because apparently a class of people who doesn’t understand debt and interest rates are somehow more financially trustworthy than those who have to figure out how to make ends meet on the kinds of salaries they can earn without a decree. Newsflash: While intelligence, education, and wisdom, may be correlated, it is not a given. Some of the smartest and wisest people I have known never went to college. On the other hand, some college graduates’ intelligence and wisdom seem to be in short supply, and their educations were largely going to clubs and frat parties, barely passing their classes. Instead of sneering at the “uneducated”, try listening to them (or at least pretend to). Theoretically, an elected representative is supposed to serve the voter by representing their interests; it isn’t the voter’s purpose to serve the politician. While even “uneducated” voters aren’t stupid enough to believe any politician actually cares about them, any party who wants their vote should at least have the good manners to hide their contempt. Trump doesn’t care about the working class (or anyone but himself). Even if he did care, he is so incompetent that his “solutions” (aside from being illegal and unethical), aren’t capable of fixing anything. Even so, just the fact that he acknowledges the voter’s concerns as valid and puts himself on their side, probably makes him more acceptable to many than a party that dismisses their concerns and looks down on them, while assuming that anyone who doesn’t agree with what the “educated” class says is in their best interest is evil and/or stupid. |
This. |
Just like elections have consequences, so do actions. OP feels the way she feels, if she feels like her father betrayed her that’s going to impact their relationship. She’s not going to magically “get over it”. |
| The imperial Biden presidency? WTF is the Donald Kingdom? |
This anxiety is so performative. |
Yes! She raised young women who are independent thinkers! …. Oh wait, that’s not allowed for women in Project 2025. Oops. |
