This. Op, you are now in the minority and need to get over this. A lot of reasonable republicans, moderates, conservatives, all not MAGA, decided to vote for Trump simply because he was more fiscally responsible and pledged to get rid of DC bureaucracy and the imperial president and the debt -- which Democrats do not. that is al. To cry "OMG he voted for Trump" shows political unsophistication.

OP is absolutely not in the minority. I cannot believe how many people are normalizing this.

Normalizing what? A candidate who was democratically elected by receiving the most votes?

But Democrats really take it deeply personally. And consistently, stubbornly refuse to even begin to try to understand why people voted for Trump despite the periodic woe is me cries on here.

To OP, my advice is get over it. Other people have their right to their views. And guess what, it doesn't mean they're wrong. And elections do have consequences. They always do. You voted for politicians that had consequences for other people but you didn't care, did you? In short, get over it.

We understand. But there was no well-informed, rational, moral reason to vote for Trump.

You were either duped and/or an a-hole.

Nope.

Not everyone's dad hates women and brown people.

Brown people voted for him too. It's how he won.

He did get more but the majority of 'brown' people either voted for Harris or didn't vote.

Taco mab won because of the white men, particularly the uneducated

And this type of attitude is one reason why the “uneducated” voted for Trump.

There are a lot of people who would love to be “educated” and have access to the opportunities that a diploma allows, but they just can’t afford it. Which makes it all the more galling when they’re told their taxes need to pay off the college loans for people whose degrees offer them not only a wider selection of jobs, but access to jobs that tend to be higher paying. Then when they complain that they can’t afford to put food on their tables, they are told by the experts that inflation isn’t really a problem and that their “educated” opinion should naturally be given more credence than the “uneducated’s” own lived experience, because apparently a class of people who doesn’t understand debt and interest rates are somehow more financially trustworthy than those who have to figure out how to make ends meet on the kinds of salaries they can earn without a decree.

Newsflash: While intelligence, education, and wisdom, may be correlated, it is not a given. Some of the smartest and wisest people I have known never went to college. On the other hand, some college graduates’ intelligence and wisdom seem to be in short supply, and their educations were largely going to clubs and frat parties, barely passing their classes.

Instead of sneering at the “uneducated”, try listening to them (or at least pretend to). Theoretically, an elected representative is supposed to serve the voter by representing their interests; it isn’t the voter’s purpose to serve the politician. While even “uneducated” voters aren’t stupid enough to believe any politician actually cares about them, any party who wants their vote should at least have the good manners to hide their contempt.

Trump doesn’t care about the working class (or anyone but himself). Even if he did care, he is so incompetent that his “solutions” (aside from being illegal and unethical), aren’t capable of fixing anything. Even so, just the fact that he acknowledges the voter’s concerns as valid and puts himself on their side, probably makes him more acceptable to many than a party that dismisses their concerns and looks down on them, while assuming that anyone who doesn’t agree with what the “educated” class says is in their best interest is evil and/or stupid.

Bullsht.

Nobody said that the price of eggs wasn’t a problem. Harris didn’t sneer at anyone and she definitely talked about the issue/ solutions.

She just didn’t LIE to people.

I cannot wrap my brain around any reason someone voted for Trump. i can only determine they've been hookwinked or misinformed or are just racist and lack empathy. No room for that in my life. How could there be.

Wow. OP here. I had no idea this would blow up this way. I have tried to educate my dad using some sources that could be viewed as neutral, such as the Jan. 6 House report, but he is stubborn and seems entrenched. I won't cut off contact with him, but have lost respect for him. It's heartbreaking. If anyone has constructive advice, I am still all ears.

+100. The people on DCUM are absolutely ridiculous about this. So many people cutting off family members because of their voting record (& this only seems to run one direction). Is your father a loving parent? A good person? Focus on that. Don’t discuss politics with him if it makes you feel better.

Yes OP IS in the minority, that’s how elections work. The person in the minority is the LOSER. Your candidate lost. Trump is your President.

I would like to hear why — sincerely. I understand if you don’t want to share because people will attack your reasons, but I would love to hear your perspective if you feel comfortable sharing.

You can share with him, but if he doesn't listen or want a conversation, then you have to accept reality. Allow your feelings.
