This. It's a free country. You don't get to control other people.

I knew my dad didn't vote for Hillary or Trump in 2016 and haven't really asked him his votes since. But I just learned he voted for Trump in 2024 and is standing by the vote. I am having a VERY hard time. Help me, DCUM. Do I just try and forget? Never discuss Trump or my job (I'm a furloughed fed) ever again? I don't want to lose my dad, but I just can't cope.

Someone please inform Trump. He seems to believe that he does get to control people, and it’s only a free country as long as people do what he wants.

My mom not only voted for Trump but "assisted" my dad who has late stage dementia with voting for him too. I will still help them when they need it (medical issues, etc) but I won't choose to spend time with them outside of that. I stopped inviting them to things my kids are involved in.

Yes your father is a bad man. Just deal with it. How could anyone support zip tie 5 years.

90% of the people in your life who you don’t know who they voted for, voted for Trump.

No way in hell I would talk to him again.

Nope Nope Nope

This is super frustrating. They have everything handed to them and their families are UMC because of liberal policies not in spite of them and its still not enough.

Not worse than the Dads who vote for Trump because of the Transpeople though. And lets be real, its not transmen, its transwomen. All under the guise of protecting "women" and their sons from being tricked. And yet, as they spout about protecting women, they elect someone who will, and has done, real harm to women and girls.

Bigotry runs deep in some families.

+1 this is what I would do.
My dad voted for trump, but he regrets it. Give it time, your dad will too. Just avoid discussion about it.

now that our country is f-up or was your dad directly impacted? If he was my dad I would be really mad and find it difficult to talk to him about 'other' things.

You must work at liberty uni or similar. This is simply not representative of educated young people. I work in higher ed and no males or females support trump. If they did once, they don’t now.

What does he think about you being furloughed?

+1 but my boys are open with me about it. They know exactly how I feel though and that I don't agree and why. Older one doesn't support Trump but is very libertarian and anti-immigration. Middle one voted for Trump a few month after he turned 18. He thinks he is terrible but he isn't into what the Dems are selling (or what the R's tell them the Dems are selling.)

This thread is all trolls, right? None of this is real. It can’t be. Ending relationships over voting for Tr when you’re still living your UMC life. I bet you’re all white too. Are you worried your 50 year old self or spouse can’t get an abortion? Your cheap landscaper will get deported? You have to buy the 12 month prosciutto instead of the 18 month?

Exactly. My husband's agency was abolished and I blame every single family member who voted for the orange menace.
