Yes, massive cuts to all types of scientific research.

The actors the board cuts are mostly to woke did but they really should have used a scalpel not a chainsaw

Maybe you didn’t notice that the Federal government’s relationship with higher education is too vast, & the entities are too entrenched to be pruned with a scalpel. If you’re going to get anything done, it has to be with broad strokes, & unfortunately there will be some collateral damage.

But the status quo (including dominance by America-hating progressives, runaway college costs due to do-nothing bureaucrats, rampant Jew harassment, & thousands of Chinese spies) called for immediate action, unless you wanted MORE of those things.

Its emergence as a bulwark of the opposition to Trump was summed up by this year’s Class Day speaker at Harvard, the former basketball star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: “After seeing so many cowering billionaires, media moguls, law firms, politicians and other universities bend their knee to an administration that is systematically strip-mining the US constitution, it is inspiring to me to see Harvard University take a stand for freedom.“

Brendan Boyle, a Democratic representative who graduated from Harvard in 2005, said: “Part of Trump’s political skill is figuring out how to portray himself as this working man’s populist hero even though he’s a billionaire who pisses in gold toilets.

The "magic sauce" of America that facilitates intellectual exchange is a combination of factors, primarily including a strong tradition of free speech, open academic institutions, and a culture that values innovation and diverse perspectives. This blend creates an environment where ideas can be freely shared, debated, and challenged, leading to advancements in knowledge and understanding.

Don't forget this. Unforeseen consequences will only be revealed years from now. History will not judge Trump's actions favorably.

Our ancestors worked hard so that we could enjoy underserved and unearned privileges. Let other countries work to create their own Harvard and enjoy them.
Life is not fair. Face it. Embrace it. Advocate for it. Exploit it. Flaunt it. It's the American way

Are you for real? If you have a C- student with a 2.8 GPA, he does not belong in Harvard! Maybe he does not belong in any college. Find a job.

Perhaps there is some reason behind this Harvard action.

They can absolutely be cut out with a scalpel.

Start revoking tax exempt status for racial discrimination (we did this to bob jones university) and watch the wokeness evaporate.

We can certainly do a better job of cutting woke programs instead of programs with a racial component.

Contrary to popular belief, race is not merely a social construct. While there is a social component to race, races frequently are composed of people that have bred almost exclusively amongst themselves for large parts of human history. There is a large genetic component to race and there are good scientific reasons to distinguish between people of different races.

To some extent Harvard brought this down on their own heads and they should own that.

They discriminated on the basis of race in the admissions process and likely still do.
They required diversity statements in the hiring process up until last year.
They promoted an almost entirely unqualified black woman to be it's president primarily because she was a black woman.
They tolerated some thought and punished others.
They fired a dean because of who he was representing in court.

We need to continue brain draining the world but we don't need harvard.
Harvard would probably best serve as a cautionary tale to universities that want to reshape america in its own woke image by indoctrinating its students.

I changed my mind on international students. My kids love Europe - study abroad, even talk of grad school there. But did you know that 85%-92% of "elite" school international student return back home, often to China? So we are allowing them to take 27-30% of spots at American universities and they take the education home to plot against us and engage in cyber espionage.

Why are you crying over this? Even the good, normal kids, generally go home - so what did we gain? A couple universities getting full fare from internationals? That is worth it to you to deprive American kids seats and not enrich the knowledge of our adversaries?

Learn the facts before being bleeding heart libs about letting foreign students take up so much space. Yeah, they are smart - America does a horrible job preparing many kids for stem - but you are sowing your own seeds of destruction.

That is the goal.

Not only will Harvard be decimated, but so will every other school in the country. Add to it the cuts in Pell grants and general economic collapse and schools will be hard pressed going forward, for anyone to attend. That is generally the goal of authoritarians.

And they end up working for US companies in those countries, making money for US investors in a global economy. This is a good thing, not a bad thing.

Nah, smart people can figure out how to make cuts effectively. We are not dealing with smart people. We are dealing with people who are trying to kill our system, the one that has kept the USA at the top of the pack for the last 80 years. Maybe ask yourself why the GOP and specifically Trump, is killing our institutions? How do THEY benefit and what guideposts in history can we point to where government, media and educational institutions are gutted?

I can name a few:

Stalin
Hitler
Orban

What do they have in common and why do you want that for our country?

Think about it.

Pol Pot, Mao, and Stalin all went after the universities and educated population first. It’s a tried and true formula.

NP. If that is the goal, then someone is underestimating the numbers of full pay domestic applicants that would like to attend these schools. Ultimately, this could hurt lower level schools, but top ranked ones will still have high demand domestically.

I don't believe that is the goal. However misguided the methods, there are certain things that need reforming, e.g., security and higher ed financing.

Well said. Democrats showed us how their ultimate goal is to destroy America. Their biggest funder, Soros, bluntly said so.

International students account for a significant portion of tuition revenue at the public University of California (UC) system. They make up approximately 16% of the total enrollment at UC, according to the Public Policy Institute of California. This means that a considerable portion of the tuition paid by international students contributes to the UC system's overall funding.

International students are a crucial source of funding for UC, especially given that the system is facing financial pressures.

So many more universities are going to have funding issues. Americans fail to see how many international students are at out in-state schools as well.
