She never had a career unless you’re gullible enough to believe that PR planted exaggerated career nonsense. More or less an idle trust funder.

OMG people. I don't know her, but I've heard her speak. She is serious. She had a serious legal career b/f George. Why the vitriol?

So now I guess she gets the Meghan Markle treatment. They live rent free in your little jealous heads.

Once a truly career focused woman, always a career focused woman. Just wish they had not selfishly had kids.

Lookie. It's the Project 2025 weirdo who thinks women shouldn't own property, have jobs, or vote. GTFO

I have realized recently that misogyny isn’t really just a general hatred of women or a synonym for sexism, but a specific tool used against women who have risen above their perceived role in society that is pointed at them to knock them back in their “deserved” place. Women who are quietly at home cleaning the kitchen and raising their children without complaint don’t have too much to fear from it; it’s mostly when we gain power someone else thinks a man should have or otherwise step out of our perceived roles that the hate descends. Sexism is an ideology that justifies the patriarchy. Misogyny is effectively the punishing arm of the patriarchy. See Kate Manne’s “Down Girl: The Logic of Misogyny.” Fwiw, in case that helps anyone else.

Yes. And the thing about misogyny is that men and women who will claim not to be sexist will engage in misogyny when faced with a woman they deem to exceeded her role or trying to exceed her role. So an avowed feminist will FREAK out when a woman in their office asserts herself, but it will be couched as dislike for this specific woman or these specific behaviors and they'll never own up to the misogyny. "It's not that I don't respect any women leaders, it's just that THIS woman doesn't deserve this specific leadership role."

And that's how it works with Amal. Of course there are women who work in international human rights who deserve praise and appreciation, but not THIS woman. THIS woman is a fashion plate, she's not serious, she's married to a Hollywood actor, she is posing as a human rights lawyer and her work isn't *real*. There's some idealized version of a female human rights lawyer out there but she wears dowdy suits and never married or had kids and she's certainly not glamorous, she has suffered for her achievements, as she should.

You're the weirdo who jumps to baseless conclusions. It's fine to have a time-consuming career. Just don't bring kids into the mix ehen they're not a priority and then lead a separate life from their dad. It's very sad for kids.

Yeah. I am sure they haven't had an argument after 14 years

She went to several of the preview shows! You don’t need to watch the same play five times just to satisfy some paps and tabloids. She and the kids moved to NYC to be near him while he did this! This is not a big deal, guys. If they were in trouble, for sure, it would have been far easier for her and the kids to stay settled where they were while he is doing this for 6 months. But they moved, sheesh.

People are weird, like make up stuff about famous people to make themselves feel better I guess? Sad.

+1. I guess it makes them feel better about their own miserable lives.

I've been married and with my spouse for about the same amount of time and that was my initial reaction too -- no way. But then I thought about it and if my spouse and I both had super successful and fulfilling careers in our chosen fields, enough money to never have to worry about money, and plenty of help, we would probably almost never argue. 99% of our arguments could be resolved with greater resources. We don't argue often but it's always about something like: he wants to spend a bit more on a vacation but I want to do something more basic so we can use the extra money to get a new dishwasher because our old one is on its last legs. Or I want to take a yoga class on Tuesdays but he tells me he can't guarantee that he will be able to pick the kids up every Tuesday due to work stuff so I can't take the class and I feel annoyed. But if we could take nice vacations and by a new dishwasher no problem, or if we had household staff who could always cover pickup when needed, these wouldn't be arguments at all.

Money doesn't solve everything but it does solve a lot of things. If you are rich and you never fight with your spouse, you are doing something correctly IMO.

I know longer have respect for Clooney. If Biden was so bad why didn’t he speak up sooner instead of getting on the band wagon and ruining a man’s career and character?

I remember watching this at the time and thinking it was funny. They seemed okay about it. I thought this was kinder to George than the Tina Fey/Amy Poehler bit about his Gravity role reflecting “how George Clooney would rather float away into space and die than spend one more minute with a woman his own age” tbh.
