I've been married and with my spouse for about the same amount of time and that was my initial reaction too -- no way. But then I thought about it and if my spouse and I both had super successful and fulfilling careers in our chosen fields, enough money to never have to worry about money, and plenty of help, we would probably almost never argue. 99% of our arguments could be resolved with greater resources. We don't argue often but it's always about something like: he wants to spend a bit more on a vacation but I want to do something more basic so we can use the extra money to get a new dishwasher because our old one is on its last legs. Or I want to take a yoga class on Tuesdays but he tells me he can't guarantee that he will be able to pick the kids up every Tuesday due to work stuff so I can't take the class and I feel annoyed. But if we could take nice vacations and by a new dishwasher no problem, or if we had household staff who could always cover pickup when needed, these wouldn't be arguments at all.

Money doesn't solve everything but it does solve a lot of things. If you are rich and you never fight with your spouse, you are doing something correctly IMO.[/quote]
