I cannot believe we still haven’t heard anything. I’m considering taking a mental health day tomorrow. |
I would think you’d want people in the office precisely so you can grab their laptops. Just because you shut off access doesn’t mean you’ve fully protected docs. I’m not a fed, but I’m aware that a reorg and RIFs are being planned at my company. I’m extra paranoid since HR reps are scheduled to be in our building this week (and they only come in when onboarding, conducting mandatory training, or terminations). I overheard a snippet of a conversation where senior staff were debating whether it’s kinder to lay off people in person or via zoom…and whether individually or as a group. They discussed the need to grab laptops rather than have people ship them back. |
In federal jobs you usually keep access to everything I til the date you are actually terminated. It's not private industry and most people don't get any sort of severance, so you basically work until your riff date. That is the severance. |
You can’t possibly be a fed. None of what you wrote is true. |
NIH OD apparently said not to expect anything until Monday. |
Stop spouting nonsense. |
Im at ED. When the RIFs came down we all got a notice midafternoon that we could telework the next day and plan to return to office the following day. Then the RIF notices went out that evening abt. 6 pm.
People who were RIFfed were told not to come in any more; their IT access was limited remotely (couldnt email outside ED, no access to SharePoint, no access to Teams). They subsequently announced arrangements for RIFfed employees to get their personal effects and said anything not claimed by a certain date would be put in storage. I am not in HQ so I dont know what exactly they did. |
The word on Reddit is that they might have screwed something up and need more time. Anyway, I would rather they take the time and get it right, rather than RIF the wrong people and then have to rescind that (not that I want anyone to be let go). |
Then what actually happens oh smart one? Please fill us in. |
NP, there’s severance pay based on years and age. Up to a year of pay. |
I’m not the op of this post but confident this is BHPC being reported here. PRB was eliminated completely. MCHB hit very hard as well, I do not know exact number but HRSA was hit INCREDIBLY hard generally based on what folks were told verbally on Friday. |
Do you know which parts of MCHB? The RIFs are HRSA seem severe especially in the programs. |
I think it’s worse. They’re likely expanding to more areas and sweeping up more. I doubt they’re taking anything off the list. |

Have any policy divisions within HHS OpDivs been hit? I’ve heard some communications groups were notified but nothing about policy or budget shops yet….. |
