If we defeat Trump, can we get the normal Republican party back please? Which Republicans have stood up to him?

Anonymous

I don't think two parties can truly represent our big nation. I wish we could have a parliamentary system with multiple viable parties.

I miss the normal Republican party - not this cult party we have now with a man of zero character and leadership remaking it in his own image. I know every politician spins and deflects to some extent, but Trump's incessant and compulsive lying is next level. His disrespect for the Constitution and America is disqualifying.

Which brave Republicans have risked being on Trump's retribution/enemies list to say "don't vote for this man" and that they are not voting for him? I want to remember and celebrate them.

The only way to get the normal Republican party back is if we defeat Trump (for the second time) definitively.

Who else wants the normal, sane, rational Republican party back? This dystopian alt-right cult version is unrecognizable and disturbing.

This should be printed in every paper. On every billboard. While we still can and before it's too late to vote. This is a 911 call to save America.

+1 I’ve been listening to Bulwark podcasts like it’s my job for a month and I agree. Today they posited that the future of the GOP is some combo of JD Vance, Tucker Carlson, and Candace Owens. No thanks.

yup get rid of the shock jocks, ann coulter types, rogan/shapiro/tate et al. and give me a thought leader to rep center right normalcy please.

colin powell, condeleeza rice, george h bush, mitt romney, etc.

Ah yes, the good ole days of Bushitler: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Bushitler

I guess Hitler isn't so bad now?

Just because the Dems have been saying terrible things about every Republican for decades now doesn't mean the party has to live down to their impression.

As a friend said when we all woke up after the Iowa caucuses in 2015, for years the media has been saying this is who Republicans are and I didn't believe them because I didn't know any Republicans like that. But now I'm not so sure.

Or it means Democrats just hate whoever is currently standing in their way, and rehabilitate them once they are no longer in the way. Give it 10 years and Democrats will be decrying the current Hitler and praising Trump. Its in the nature of being an NPC.

This is what I always say. Once Trump is safely dead: "He wasn't so bad. It's JD (or whoever) who's truly the second coming of Hitler. It will be the end of America"

It’s actually true that someone with all of Trump’s views who’s actually smart, experienced, competent and not overwhelmed by corrupt self interest or over 70 years old would/will be worse than Trump. As JVL put it today, we’ll miss the clown with the flamethrower when we’re faced with the SS officer with the flamethrower.

Trump didn't win the Iowa caucuses.

Of course, he lost because they were rigged, just like every other time he loses anything. But after Iowa it was clear that primary voters were taking him seriously as a candidate, which is what PP meant.

Sure, you’re a “lifelong republican.”

There is zero chance anyone (even current republicans) will be rehabilitating Trump's image in a decade or a century.

I would have said the same thing about GWB but the left seems perfectly happy with him now.

I’m a Republican voting for Harris. I like Larry Hogan and former Massachusetts governor Charlie Baker. Mitt Romney is too old and no current senators or reps have the courage to stand up.

Who else wants the normal, sane, rational Republican party back? This dystopian alt-right cult version is unrecognizable and disturbing.

The left has called ever Republican candidate a Nazi in my life time. Maybe the left will get what it wants so badly.

Republicans aren’t going to win with those people anymore. That party died with the low birth rate of middle class white people.

Yup. They’re always Nazis somehow. Remember Bushitler?

Exactly. Reagan was called a "fascist." George W. Bush - the same one many Democrats fawn over today - was called a "racist, fascist, Nazi war criminal." One thing Democrats are consistent on is calling any Republican opponent a "Nazi." Pretty gross behavior, considering.

I personally do not want a GOP establishment Chamber of Commerce War Hawk type as the Republican nominee. I even voted for Obama over McCain, because I couldn’t bring myself to vote for him. He was such an uninspiring candidate to me. McCain and Romney were losers for the GOP. I think if another type like them were the nominee, turn out would drop due to lack of enthusiasm from the base of voters.

If we vote in Harris, this could be a great way for the GOP to rise from the ashes and remake itself in a non-MAGA non-dog whistle, no-xenophobic way. Trump is the opposite of a role mode for our kids and families and acts like a spoiled bully. Let's embarrass the bully and bring class back to the GOP!
