If we defeat Trump, can we get the normal Republican party back please? Which Republicans have stood up to him?

I miss the normal Republican party - not this cult party we have now with a man of zero character and leadership remaking it in his own image. I know every politician spins and deflects to some extent, but Trump's incessant and compulsive lying is next level. His disrespect for the Constitution and America is disqualifying.

Which brave Republicans have risked being on Trump's retribution/enemies list to say "don't vote for this man" and that they are not voting for him? I want to remember and celebrate them.

The only way to get the normal Republican party back is if we defeat Trump (for the second time) definitively.

Who else wants the normal, sane, rational Republican party back? This dystopian alt-right cult version is unrecognizable and disturbing.

There are no normal Republicans.

To say this is to engage in the behavior that, among other behaviors, enabled Donald Trump. If every Republican in the 80s and 90s was literally Hitler, who's going to blink when Trump is also literally Hitler?

No thanks, not unless we get the “normal” Democrat party back too.

It will take decades to get the MAGA stench out. I'd give up on "Republican" and start over again.

Fun fact: Trump switched party affiliations five times and finally settled on Repubican in 2012.

The root problem is that the entire political system is bought and paid for by the rich to take money from the citizens and provide poor value (think pharma costs, health care, cable companies, monopolies, monopsonies, some defense companies, etc., etc.). The system indeed is rigged in many sectors and it isn't being solved politically. Republicans, Democrats, traditional media, and special interests are in on it. Until that is addressed, you will have a large portion of the population looking to wreck the system. We need to take money out of politics or you will keep getting an angry voter base looking for an outlet, even if terrible.

The rise of the Tea Party is a big part of what alienated me from the GOP. And then it only got worse with Trump. I had been a registered Republican for 25 years.

There are plenty of normal Democrats, including the sitting President and current VP/Presidential nominee. You've just been brainwashed by the MAGA echo chamber. Of course, you also have Tim Walz, Pete Buttigieg, Josh Shapiro, Andy Bashear, Mark Kelly, Laura Kelly, Gretchen Witmer, Tony Evers, Kathy Hochul, Jared Polis, Richard Blumenthal, Sherrod Brown, Bob Casey, Tammy Duckworth, John Fetterman, John Hickenlooper, Mazie Hirono, Tim Kaine, Ed Markey, Chris Murphy, Chris Van Hollen, Mark Warner, Raphael Warnock. These are all normal Democrats.

Yeah, pretty true. The elites are great at distracting us to think the other party is the enemy so we don't look around and wonder why they have all the money and power, while us peons struggle amongst themselves fighting for housing and a few weeks of vacation each year. Tale as old as time. I'm one of the wealthier and luckier peons, and they are better off if I'm distracted, fighting to keep my place there.

The base likes Trump and populism.

The donors don't like Trump and populism.

Remains to see if the base and populism gets him elected, but we can check back tomorrow.

Most Americans actually do want secured borders. Democrat politicians promised us open borders for all.

War mongers in each party despise Trump.
