Why do the High School Girls Wear Their Uniforms So Short??

But, get real, when girls wear tiny shorts and revealing tops, it's intended to be sexy. And while they may not be seeking sex, per se, they get that that sort of dress is "hot" and appealing to males. The whole point is to be a little daring and risque. It's not the summer temperatures that motivate girls to wear uncomfortably short shorts.

I get that fashion has few limits right now, with celebrities regularly getting in the news for wearing sheer dresses with just a thong out in public.

But to blame the viewer for finding provocative dress provocative, well, that's silly.

Ewww! They are still kids though! They aren't doing it for adults! They aren't thinking that hard about it. and if YOU think it's sexy, then YOU are the problem.

Who are still kids? If the girl is 8, she is unlikely to roll up her skirt.

If she is 15 and aiming for super-mini skirts or shorts, then she is doing it to be daring and/or to fit in the current "hot" fashion, and that fashion is absolutely intended to be sexy.

If they are teenagers and are completely unaware of what their dress communicates to the world, then their parents are remiss.

Easy. Parents tell their DDs they cannot wear such short skirts. I guess some parents want schools to do the dirty work for them.

Oh my.

And how, pray tell, do you suggest the parents enforce this?

Cannot wait for this answer.

Look at your kid before she leaves for school and tell her yes or no. Was the answer worth the wait?

And then she rolls it on the way to school.

Then you have a child who is willingly defying you. Hardly earth shattering, but it's something you as a parent must deal with as you see fit. There are some parents who are fine letting their daughters wear tight-fitting, revealing clothing, and others who see it as typical adolescent behavior as these kids rebel and begin to claim their agency and autonomy. It also isn't dealing with the root issue of the problem: how our culture conditions us to almost always view women's bodies as sexual objects.

The bolded may be a problem, but it is not applicable in a discussion about people dressing such that their sexual anatomy is highlighted.

Is anyone bothered by this?

The responses here seem to be:

- parents saying they can’t do anything
- men saying they enjoy it
- the rest is people saying everyone should mind their own business

Sounds like we’re trying to solve a problem no one needs solved?

Exactly. I love how the PC brigade acts like we are sexualizing children. These are teen girls sexualizing themselves. By RECOGNIZING it, it doesn't by any means indicate people are ogling them or being inappropriate. This analysis is dumb. I feel like it's the moms who also work their skirts too short way back in the 1900's and are for some reason offended.

While sources differ, a quick google search reveals that most normal healthy men believe girls are the most physically attractive from their mid-late teens to early-mid twenties. That's not to say that most normal healthy men want any kind of relationship with anyone that young, or would ever act in any way on their attraction. But it's perfectly normal for grown men to secretly think of such girls as attractive without needing to feel shamed as pedos, pervs, or creepers by the PC brigade.

Right - how hard can this be? Yes girls may roll their skirts but most of the skirts I see are HEMMED to be this length so a parent is definitely involved and is cool with the exposure. I find it extremely odd that parents see their daughter walking out of the house this way and are totally cool with it.

You’re looking at these girls’ skirts often enough and closely enough to know they are hemmed short and not just rolled? What is wrong with you people?? Stop staring at children’s butts!

Yes I am a MOM at a school where my daughter’s skirt is the length acceptable per the handbook. Of course I’m trying to figure why everyone else skirts are shorter and of course my tween complains her’s are too long because of her peers. So yes I’m looking. With reason. 🕵🏻‍♀️🕵🏻‍♀️

I think the (few) posters who repeatedly impugn the motives of other posters without any evidence should be Jeff-blocked — DCUM works so well for us largely because it is well moderated and people can debate issues without always having their motives called into question. Insulting other posters without a real basis is not civil discourse.

This thread is utterly immune from context. Too many centuries of conditioning.

OP, don’t you remember being a teenager?

If there are no boundaries, there is nothing to rebel against. Then it's just licentiousness.

I'm one of the guys who brings his primary school age kids to the pool and reads while they swim. Every once in a while, I can't help but have my eyes be drawn to the forms of beautiful women, mostly mothers and au pairs, who are physically mature. Some however I realize belatedly are probably in high school. Oh well, I'm a man and am hardwired to appreciate beauty. I always wear sunglasses and do not turn my head so as not to make anyone aware and feel uncomfortable. I quite enjoy this aspect of coming to the pool. Not harming anyone, and not a pervert.

In terms of skirt length, it is not one size fits all. If a girl has pretty legs, then a short skirt can be cute and tasteful. But what gets me are girls with super fat legs who think it is ok to wear short skirts just because their friends are. Parents need to have some judgment here.

Again, explain exactly how parents can even know, much less control, how short a teenager’s skirt is at school.

Teach them the difference between sexy and skanky, that’s how.

So you have nothing. Got it.
