Why do the High School Girls Wear Their Uniforms So Short??

No, they aren’t. Some kids roll the waist bands and hem them up, just like the girls at all the high schools with uniforms.

At a particular private school event, we asked a school administration if there are certain length requirements for the girls’ skirts. The admin chuckled and in a matter-of-fact way replied that there are requirements but the girls just roll them up when they get to school. I took two things away from that interaction:

1) all / a lot of the girls are doing this because it’s the trend (whether the parents like it or not, or whether the parents were even aware)

2) the school administration is not enforcing any requirement.

Having gone to a private school that has uniform requirements, the administrative staff actually checked the students’ uniforms while at school and sent a note to the parents whenever requirements were not followed, so that it can be rectified.

But, more importantly, as PPs have pointed out, it also comes down to whether the girls are raised to understand how they dress matters (not referring to price / brand of clothing but more the manner in which clothes worn).

Jiggling cheeks from the miniskirt trend now.

I can’t wait for the deep cleavage trend to start.

Dean of students or advisor should give dress code demerits or warnings when girl walks in with a skirt that’s too shirt or bare midriff showing. There’s no enforcement, girls know it, and push boundaries more and more each year.
Administrators are especially cowardly in recent years. Perhaps due to trauma from conversations with angry parents that went bad. Still, enforcing dress code is part of their job and they shouldnt let things slide too much.

Not really, but you are clearly either perverts or shaming young girls over their bodies or both. To be clear, it was NEVER not once over many years that my mind became occupied by the school issued uniforms.

There was someone once who questioned spaghetti straps in a Big 3. And to her eternal credit, the woman in charge said, the only thing we care about is that they are comfortable (essentially that they have enough fabric to sit on as judged by themselves). Damn straight.

Take your unwanted gaze and your judgment back to whatever backwater spat you out

No they shouldn’t. Girls and boys and others should do as they please.

You want the morality police? Sadly there are still places that live in a different century altogether

In terms of skirt length, it is not one size fits all. If a girl has pretty legs, then a short skirt can be cute and tasteful. But what gets me are girls with super fat legs who think it is ok to wear short skirts just because their friends are. Parents need to have some judgment here.

You’re a perv…just own it creepy guy.

I would be willing to bet that you’re not especially pretty, so in your world, any man who notices the girls who are pretty deserves to be called silly names.

On a scale of 1-10, what are you? Be honest.

Within 3 guesses, I would be willing to bet I can guess your background. Easy , what are you? Be honest

Easy. Parents tell their DDs they cannot wear such short skirts. I guess some parents want schools to do the dirty work for them.

Never once did it cross my mind to tell any such thing to my DD. And I now never will knowing there are perverts amongst the parents. This is America if you don’t like it there are still places that live differently and prescribe women’s behaviors to their own detriment

It's rolled up further.

As a male, I don't mind, but don't pretend yours wasn't shorter than your mom's and these girls aren't shorter than yours.

Thank you. Oddly, even on the school's website, they are rolled super high. I just wouldn't feel comfortable with my daughter in an environment where that is encourage. She is pretty modest. And I'm not a prude or old (am in my 40's and also went to Catholic school).

It is shocking to see the Sidwell girls leaving school everyday with their literal asscheeks jiggling in the sun... but as I'm sure we'll soon see, a lot of parents feel very strongly that they should be allowed to make the choices they want, and that it's wrong to sexualize them for doing so.

This part is correct. Stop leering at children.

+1

Just because they're wiggling them around as they walk past construction workers and stopped traffic on Wisconsin Ave doesn't mean anyone should sexualize them.

No, it doesn’t.

Are you a “well, what was she wearing?” person?

No, I have no comment other than I was surprised to see they were allowed to have bare butt cheeks jiggling visibly as part of the dress code at Sidwell. I assumed the school was stricter.

Jiggling?

Yeah, that's how much was showing. I would've thought for the money they pay to attend, they'd be able to afford longer shorts.

You need psychiatric help

But, get real, when girls wear tiny shorts and revealing tops, it's intended to be sexy. And while they may not be seeking sex, per se, they get that that sort of dress is "hot" and appealing to males. The whole point is to be a little daring and risque. It's not the summer temperatures that motivate girls to wear uncomfortably short shorts.

I get that fashion has few limits right now, with celebrities regularly getting in the news for wearing sheer dresses with just a thong out in public.

But to blame the viewer for finding provocative dress provocative, well, that's silly.

Demonizing the human body never goes out of fashion, a proud tradition for at least 1600 years in the Christian Church. Some things are impervious to modernization.

Erm. I don’t think the Christians are leading this trend or ever had been 😂

I understand they are young but the standards of professionalism dissipated.

Where do you park your white van while you lurk in the park?

Ewww! They are still kids though! They aren't doing it for adults! They aren't thinking that hard about it. and if YOU think it's sexy, then YOU are the problem.

i think part of the point is that based on what they're wearing it's easy to misidentify their age.

you see a half exposed butt wiggling down the street and as a man, your eyes are drawn to it... you look up and see from the t-shirt they're wearing that they are a rising senior at Sidwell and the proper reaction should be "oh no! gross!" but whether they're doing it for adults or not, whether they realize it or not adn whether they should be looked at isn't what draws the eye. it's what should keep the eye from going back.

What is your problem?! You fing weirdo idiot. Some thoughts should never cross your lips on the way to get psychiatric help.

Sidwell-obsessed maniac

Sorry to say but what you described is in the DSM-5-TR. It’s not under “man” but under the paraphilic disorders. You are in fact a pervert but we don’t use that word any longer. You should see someone, if you’re lucky it could still be medicated at a tendency and not a full blown disorder
