What clubs are left in Nova?

Anonymous
For those in Great Falls, Langley, McLean etc. closer to bridge, would also consider BLC Orange and Next Level / M&D as well (latter of which having very convenient location at WES right off River Rd). Better admin, coaching and players than all or most options listed here, especially in 32-34 years. Last M&D tryout this evening and would imagine both clubs are open to supplemental workouts if you're not trying for BLC Blue teams.

I guess it depends if more than 2 teams worth of girls show up at the Stars tryouts. Not sure how big they’ll let their roster get for Navy. Pride likely wants 2 teams for 2032 but right now only has one. So you’re right, they probably won’t cut anyone if they have the numbers for a B team.

What do they do when they get 30-35 girls showing up for 2033/2034?

At that age it is not unusual for girls to play up a year. My daughter had a unique experience, which I believe really helped her, playing up three years. So, when she was a 4th grader she played up with the 7th grade team. But she had the size and athleticism to fit in. By the time she got to 8th grade she started playing with what would be her recruiting class, for recruiting purposes. If the opportunity presents itself and the players are physically mature I would recommend playing up for as long as one can.

So, bottomline, they find a way to balance out the squads, and as long as your daughter has been playing rec for at least a couple of seasons, she'll make a team?

I’ve seen clubs try to find a place for all girls. If they have enough for two full teams and a few remaining players I have seen the club offer players spots on a training team. Not ideal, but everyone found a home. Before going that route I would look for a club with full teams. Rosters really should not be more than 20-22 players, otherwise you may get frustrated with playing time.

Thank you so much for clarifying. Sounds like I have been needlessly sweating DD making a team.

If you are serious about developing a goalie, you should consider individual private lessons.

Gussie at Healthy Baller offers goalie lessons.

We've used Lauren at ladylaxgoalies.com. Gary Morgan might also still be kicking around.

Gary trains YJ goalies every practice.

How are the younger True girls teams? Do they have 31 or 32?

Or you could suck it up and head over to MD to Goaliesmith. That's what lots of local goalies do. It's not close to NoVa, but they're the best.

We do goaliesmith from time to time also but prefer Lauren's teaching style and private lessons to the larger goaliesmith groups. There is no best that is suited for all. Each goalie learns different.

OP here, that’s where we zoomed it, thanks! 👍

I know victor and knew case so. . . Cool. Can deal with both, I actually like both. 🙂

Case isn’t part of YJMA anymore. The club has been greatly redirected under new leadership.

How is the new leadership? We are leaving Stars because of dictator Stacey. Would hate to switch somewhere that is just as bad.

Audrey Hoeg is great. W&M lax alum. Former LI YJ.

YJMA really got a lot better once Case left. Complete 180

Besides leadership YJ have some great coaches at all levels. Stable coaches. Not ex college players that come for 1 season then gone.

If you see Gary run, or your daughter will learn the squatty potty method.

DD absolutely adores Coach Lauren. She has an awesome manner with the younger girls.

Since summer tryouts are coming up in a few months, I thought it might be worth it to revive this thread. If you're looking at Va clubs, which ones are doing well and which ones should be avoided?
