2nd this, Stars 2033 is a mess. |
Stars keep recycling the same old tired coaches. |
|
In five years, BLC will get some of the better players. It’s just better run. It will be the best club in the DC area.
YJMA will catch up and eventually be the best NOVA club. They are starting to pull in a lot of former players as coaches. |
While coaching can always improve that’s not the issue with Stars right now…. |
what is the issue with stars? |
SW and STJ |
It already is the best best in DC area for grade 8 and below. Honestly no even close. If they ever added a high school team, they would challenge Capital |

To the PP who said they don’t know any club players, if you’re not in spring rec, try to grab a spot now. You’ll meet parents of club players and can get a feel for what they think of the club teams your year. It’s probably too late for supplemental tryouts for most club teams but doesn’t hurt to reach out. If you could get on a club team at this point for just the spring and summer, that would also be a good way to try it.
We had an awful experience w/ stars and found them to be disorganized with close to no communication. SW is awful. She has her favorites and will always put them on thr light blue regardless of ability. If she’s not coaching your year, she’ll still try to interfere. My dd switched to Pride and is happy. Is her team amazing? No but it’s well organized, communication is great and she can stay there through high school as she doesn’t want to even try for the intensity of Capital. |
My DD plays for Stars and the comment above about SW is correct. At 7th and 8th grade, they are a feeder for Capital and SSSAS. Metro and Yellow Jackets may have spots for Spring and Summer, so it doesn’t hurt to reach out. |
If YJMA is able to keep progressing, they could make a good club out of the market that doesn't want to travel to Arlington, Alexandria or Bethesda. There are enough kids in Fairfax, Haymarket, and parts of loudon to make competitive teams at each age group. |
How long do you have? The list is insurmountable. Terribly run, Constantly over promises and under delivers, over priced, limited access to the facility that sponsors you etc. etc. etc. |
Additionally, they only focus on developing the A team (Light Blue) if they do it at all. Some classes are moderately competitive for DC/Northern VA area. The club director likes to jump in and coach during games even though she doesn’t do anything during practices. she’ll give confusing and sometimes conflicting guidance to the team. Oh, communication is one-way. They are very diligent at reminding you about the StJ money grab events and clinics but won’t response to legitimate questions like who will be the team coach before your commitment is due. I can go on but don’t want to bore people who’ve heard this many times before. |
