Help me understand Republican women in their 30s and 40s

Why do you have to say Jan 6? who coined that ?

The thread is about abortion because the OP (or someone who agrees with her) said that they can't understand why any woman wouldn't vote for Democrats, because they are voting against their own interests if they don't vote for the party that promises abortion access.

Then they asserted that women who vote Republican only do so because they are racist.

This becomes problematic during marriage, raising kids, and career. I don’t see that as sustainable.

According to this chart, the question isn’t why US women vote republican, it is why so many have shifted left in the past decade or so.

I am voting republican this year
—40s, female and divorced

Why:Trump was not that bad. I voted Biden last time. I am worried about the VP and what it would be like to lose a president in office

On January 6, were you not worried about the president and what it would be like to lose a VP in office?

Enough about that date. Property was destroyed and some had heart attacks. It was wrong.
I remember Sept 11. I lost a friend from HS. Let’s not go through that again. Keep me safe. Keep stability abroad so it doesn’t come home

We almost lost the system of government that has been in place since our founding, but fine, let's just go with "property was destroyed and some had heart attacks." I remember 9/11 too and it was a catastrophic failure by federal intelligence and law enforcement - but Bush never incited the hijackers, nor did he praise them after the fact.

I always say the left has lost it. And I actually agree with much of what you believe. So… what you are saying : It’s just not true

You think the US government was almost toppled by a man in a mouse-hat with horns?

I have no idea what you are talking about with Bush. But since I raised it and am happy to go with the flow:

I don’t think the event merits its own date. Like D Day or september 11. It’s an oversell.

I would vote for Trump TOMORROW if he apologies during the debate for making remarks on Jan 6th that could have caused people to destroy property. It’s not right. Our capital buildings are a national treasure.

He probably wishes he hadn’t done that.
Anonymous
Maybe people think the building is the US government? Oh, that’s it.

But if you think about it, it’s hard to fit all of those troops in there.

Would the guy in the moose hat command our military in your scenario? what would he tell them?

Your post is incredibly sexist though. I don't think you've left sexism behind.

Tell me I'm wrong. Tell me that Republican *policy* isn't geared towards denying women (and only women) reproductive freedom. And it's not just abortion - they're going after contraception as well. And the cherry on top is that they are proposing PUNISHMENT for having an abortion.

And spare me the lecture about immigration being a national security issue - if it was truly that, the GOP I used to know would have shut that shit off years ago. But Republicans don't want to solve the issue; it's too valuable to them as a wedge issue for political advantage. It's all dog whistles, and barely disguised ones at that.

The way I see it, any woman of reproductive age who still votes Republican is just like a Log Cabin Republican - willing to trade their entire identity for absolutely nothing.

Are you aware that for most women, abortion is not the only issue they think about? It's clear you're a one-issue voter. Many of us are not. Even those of us who are pro-choice.

NP. I’m the black woman who posted about my abortion and your comment is what it comes down to. There’s a lot more to consider than abortion. I’m so disgusted by Democrats’ positions on so many other issues that I won’t vote for Biden this election. It’s a measure of how far this country has fallen that we have to choose between a party that would allow adult male crossdressers, a disproportionate number of whom are sex offenders, into girls’ bathrooms versus a party that would force a raped girl to carry the crossdressing degenerate’s child to term.

My point was this: 9/11 and 1/6 were the two darkest days of my lifetime (I was born in the 70s). While Bush's administration could have done more to prevent 9/11, he did not summon the perpetrators as Trump did when he tweeted "Big protest in D.C. on January 6th. Be there, will be wild!" And he never, *ever* glorified the perpetrators, as Trump has many times and continues to do.

What would have happened had the January 6 rioters managed to take the ballots - or capture or kill members of Congress?

Exactly. We disagree with you OP. Shocking to you, I know.

Disagreeing with us is one thing. Disagreeing with your own self interests and bodily autonomy is what confounds us.

You’re the one suggesting it as a conflict with self interest and bodily autonomy and that’s the mistake you are making. It’s really not that difficult to understand the other side of anortion even if you disagree. There’s probably a million articles online that explain conservative views of abortion that can help you …BUT

Be aware that even republicans disagree on where to draw the line, whether at conception or closer to the first trimester etc, and there are even fully pro choice/no restriction Republicans who simply align with the party on other issues besides abortion which leads them to vote the way they do.

DP, and ok. But why do you want laws that restrict what other people do?

DP
You are not recognizing that there is another party in the mix that doesn't have a say...... the baby that is growing in the womb.

NP. What PP is saying is that YOU don’t get a say. You’re not the woman or the baby. Not a single right of yours is on the line and if the woman’s choice bothers you, then you can get therapy or stay mad. HTH.

I am not mad.
But, there are some of us that believe someone needs to be the voice for the voiceless..... the baby.

You’ll never convince them PP. Some people are so self absorbed that the concept of putting another person first- even their own child - is a foreign one.

I’m the PP who had the abortion after heart failure. I had two living children who needed me, their mother, and the unborn one who was killing me. Clearly, according to you, my own life doesn’t matter and it’s the children who should be put “first.” So, which of the children should I have put “first” — the ones who needed me to abort and live or the one whose ongoing existence would have killed me?

Respectfully, I think when most people talk about abortion, they are referring to the 95%+ cases where it “elective” and not when the life of the mother was at risk or fetus was non-viable. There are some Republicans who want no abortion, ever. But I think many if not most accept it in the scenarios where the baby is non viable or mother’s health is at risk.

Respectfully, when you make it difficult to get abortion care, and have doctors fearing for their own safety and personal freedom, you make it much more dangerous for pregnant women in general, and much more likely that women who needs abortions to save their lives won't be able to get them. You're so worried about unborn babies you're killing women that already exist. They're someone's baby too.

Good grief woman. None of this is happening. You're being manipulated and they're using your bigotry to do it. One day the fascists will come to round up people that look like you and me, and you'll have empowered them because you were afraid of imaginary cross-dressing rapists. Get it together! There are real and present dangers, and I promise you trans people are not the danger you should fear.

On hundred percent. But that Jan 6th minimizer is just explaining what Republican women do with that catastrophe in order to keep voting Republican. They minimize it and are probably disappointed that the coup was not successful.

Darn gal. I have black friends who are very verbal about some of the gender bender issues you raised. They say it’s about safety for their daughters and would prefer status quo in dorms. Interesting!

Very little. This was the first unarmed "coup" in world history.
