Are there brands for tween girls where the shorts aren't super short?

DP and my 12 year old was asking me about these. She's a fan of the stretch but hates the look of bike shorts, so this is her compromise. I'm the poster above who complained most shorts were too wide.

And to the point of all the PPs saying "raise your daughter not to care what other people think," my 12 year old doesn't mind that these aren't the most fashionable thing. She likes what she likes, and longer shorts is it. Isn't that not caring what other people think?

The problem is the girls with no fashion sense but think they do because they buy Lululemon and wear Uggs. They are most likely to ridicule other girls who are wearing “baby clothing”

OP here, thanks for everyone's suggestions. My girls are on the shorter side and very thin. The 11 year generally fits into size 8 clothes and the 13 year old into size 10/12. But they have long legs so it seems like the shorts are especially short on them. We did find some jean "midi" style at children's place with adjustable waist that everyone could agree on though..

I especially appreciated whoever posted the thinkorblue link - it really highlighted my feelings on it - I am not a prude (don't need them in a burqa) but I also don't understand why girls clothes (in our supposedly enlightened era) are still dramatically different from boys'. It's only if consumers ask for something different that clothing lines will adapt.

I think a big point is to learn that the beach is different from a school. As long as they're using sunscreen and reapplying regularly, we are very flexible at the beach. But for school sitting in shared plastic desk chairs and the bus, there should not be cheeks hanging out or bare stomachs.

Fact is most girls prefer what’s in style and it has nothing to do with boys.

As long as privates are covered, my teen has autonomy to dress how she likes. And last time I checked the place where the umbilical cord was cut, isn’t a private part. Either are legs or arms.

OP I wish you mentioned the fact that your girls are on the smaller side. If that’s the case try Primary. They have shorts in various lengths. I just ordered a couple for my 9 year or and 7 year old so that they can try them out. I’m looking for something mid calf which is what I would be comfortable with my girls wearing at school.

DP, and tell me about it to the bolded. Cannot believe the poster on here who angrily cannot handle that other girls themselves might want to not wear a 2.5" inseam or whatever. It's crazy the talking out of both sides of one mouth going on with "wear what you want and be confident" and yet "you're a prude if you don't want to show your abs and upper thighs!" How about I won't judge your daughters who enjoy short shorts and you don't judge my daughters who don't?

Also for smaller kids who like the lululemon look (and there's nothing wrong with that), I like the girls' Crz Yoga dupes on amazon. I had to size down a little on my girls to get them to not be so wide, but they're great athletic shorts.

That wasn’t what I was responding to. I was responding to a mom of a 7 and 9 year old thinking that you can buy tweens and teens clothes from the children’s place and they’ll wear them NBD. I have 12 year old girls and wearing clothes from the children’s place is just something they would refuse to do. They would sit in the closet unworn until I donated them. You can talk until you’re blue in the face about labels blah blah blah, but they are in middle school, not a place known for independent thinking. I’m sure they’ll grow out of it, but for better or worse fitting in is important to the majority of middle schoolers. You have to look a little harder but there are longer shorts options, yes the 2.5 inch hotty hots are front and center but they have 4 inch options as well other shorts that are longer. You don’t have to jump to well I’ll make them wear clothes designed for 8 year olds.

That wasn’t what I was responding to. I was responding to a mom of a 7 and 9 year old thinking that you can buy tweens and teens clothes from the children’s place and they’ll wear them NBD. I have 12 year old girls and wearing clothes from the children’s place is just something they would refuse to do. They would sit in the closet unworn until I donated them. Trend also covers shorts that look like a skirt. Not skirts but not shorts per se. I didn't like how short they look but DD won't wear anything else. But I'm getting used to them and in a way they actually look very cute given they flare like a mini skirt.
