My hair isn't purple, it's too grey to hold the color or otherwise I would dye it purple. And yes, I'm a progressive feminist. But I absolutely DO know how good I've got it having been born in the USA on the cusp of the ERA movement, and that the sickening displays of misogyny that I have observed and been injured by over the course of my lifetime are still nothing compared to the subjugation of women occurring on most of the planet.

I know that as I complain about sexism in academia and on the job, about male entitlement in intimate relationships and the domestic sphere etc. I should just be grateful I'm not getting my clit sliced off by a rusty razor, or being buried in the ground to should level and being stoned to death by the village because my husband no longer wants me and has falsely accused me of adultery, or being burned alive by a mob including my former fiance's family because my parents couldn't afford the dowry price they once agreed to pay, or being murdered by my own father or brother or uncle because I dared to fall in love with someone other than the aged cousin I was promised to at birth, or being gang raped and murdered by rampaging terrorists because I am just an object meant to serve the rage of men.

Yeah, patriarchy is alive and well - sorry to the poster who claims it is in its last gasps, you are very wrong indeed.

In many (most?) species, the female chooses her mate after watching the male display. In many species, the females raise the babies, sometimes in matriarchal groups (elephants) while the males go off to fight each other (yawn).

I agree with this to some degree. After all, men need women more than women need men, especially if they want a family. So it's actually women's responsibility to not breed with the wrong kind of men. Yet, many complaints on this forum show how dumb women keep breeding with lazy misogynistic men. Stop doing that, just get Rabbit, like Charlotte did in Sex and the City. Go to a sperm bank if you want a child - it's better than reproducing with a deadbeat. OR only reproduce with men who believe in equity and walk the walk

It’s a hard truth. If tomorrow, women treated their daughters the same as their sons, patriarchy would disappear in two generations. Also, MILs need to treat their DILs like they would want their daughters treated in someone else’s family.
