I already stated it: Context is all. You pointed to the only Black candidate in this race and called him "my boy". In that context, it is offensive, to both me and at least one other poster. And you, my friend, are the ass. |
First off, you do know that Gray is black... right?
Second off, YOU are the one who is ignoring context. You saw the word "boy" and jumped to a conclusion. I said, "your boy" as in, the person you prefer, like, support. Did you look at the links I posted? That demonstrate how that term "your boy" or "my boy" is used today, specifically with males of my generation? No, why would you do that? You LOVE jumping to conclusions. And I can't wait for you to spin your obvious wrong statement that Fenty is the only black candidate in the race. |
Gray is not Black. |
Oh really? Are you going to substantiate that? Or is that just your "gut feel"?
"Gray, 67, who is African American, will try to take advantage of black voters’ unease with Fenty, 39, while still reaching out to liberal white voters by noting his leadership role in enacting a same-sex marriage law and a 5-cent tax on disposable bags." From: http://woldcnews.com/DCnews/berniemccain/vincent-gray-to-challenge-fenty-in-d-c-mayor-race/ |
And this:
"While at George Washington, he became the first African-American admitted in the George Washington fraternity system, and in his junior and senior years, became the first person to serve consecutive terms as Chancellor of Tau Epsilon Phi." Directly from Gray's own website: http://www.vincegrayformayor.com/about/meet_vince_gray/ Perhaps this thread should be about YOUR arrogance, whereby you deem yourself fit to decide who is and who is not black and what black people should be offended by. |
You are getting into pretty dangerous territory. You have already been in such territory a few times in this discussion. I suggest that you take a couple of big breaths and rethink this type of post. |
Jeff-
I hope PP was simply misinformed (as he/she has demonstrated a tendency to be) and is hopefully not actually implying that Gray doesn't "qualify" as black for one reason or another. Then again, earlier she did refer to Fenty as the "darker skinned" candidate, seemingly indicating that she recognized both as black. Maybe the information that he is black is "outdated" and thus "shitty". Oi vei. |
Wow, I left the site to do some real work and all this took place. I never saw the deleted message, so thankfully no response is required. So, can we now get back to the original topic, for it is currently toxic. |
I saw it before it was deleted. It was something along the lines of, "You better watch how you talk to me, boy" directed at me, though used bizarre phrasing to make it about as offensive as possible while attempting to equivocate that statement with the way I used "your boy" earlier. Pure nonsense. |
Still waiting for the poster-in-question to own up to his/her statement that Vince isn't black. Looks like he/she put his/her tail between his/her legs rather than admit that he/she might be wrong. The pattern continues... |
Jeff...thanks for reminding me about the crash in Chevy Chase. Fenty was indeed driving that day. Fenty did in fact run the stop sign. The other driver, while not injured, was very dazed and confused. They were able to get him home (he lived pretty close to the crash site), but the car was a wreck.
The police report was fudged to claim no-fault, which was a complete and total crock. There should have been more journalistic and official investigation into that episode. |
