I believe Arlington beat them last year in one of the tournaments (don’t quote me). I’m sure either Arlington or Bethesda parents will chime in if my info is incorrect 🤣

For U13 teams you need to take the rankings and predications with a grain of salt since rosters and team names shifted around quite a bit.
Arlington played in a NC tournament and you can see the results on the tournament page. They are playing another three games this weekend so will have all their cards on the table before league play starts.

3 games against opponents that won’t really give them a challenge. Maybe Beach FC. Would’ve been nice to see them matched against VDA and Union but those two don’t want to see Arlington right now IMO.

This is the stupidity of youth soccer today. The thought that Arlington should travel to a tournament in NC to play two other teams from Northern Virginia.

The east coast premier cup that’s in question coming up is being played in Loudoun county?

Beat bethesda 2-0 in their last matchup at WAGS last year. Could be anybody’s game if they saw each other again.

Kickball won’t last forever.

Amazing athletes who need more time on the ball juggling & developing real skill.

Most of the youth teams in this area I’ve seen regardless of league affiliation play a direct style.

So which clubs around here or somewhere else are not playing direct style? Is that more of a club policy?

Our club is at least training for possession-based play. Whether U13s can implement, remains to be seen, but hoping that they get there. They may not win many games this year, but probably better for development in the long run.

At least your head is in the right space. I think a lot of clubs don’t have the patience due to the typical win now mentality. Families associate development with winning and while winning matches is A goal it’s not the ONLY goal. You can see in this forum alone there’s a lot weighed in on winning now even at this young age. Training teams and players to play a possession based game takes time and mistakes along the way. But as they say, failure is the mother to success.

The ECNL team aka their 1st team is the one everybody is discussing. Not their 2nd team.

Kids also have to win. DD was too team with a large NOVA team that always lose because they focused overboard on passing. Never shooting never winning just passing. She had it - she was like 90 min practices 3x a week and all we do is lose. Switched clubs and looooves to play now. Doesn't win every game but also doesn't only play kick ball but she's actually allowed to try to score. Top team of club is unbelievable but granted the other teams in age group are just OK but even their bottom teams are not horrible. They don't focus on passing the way old club does but def incorporates that but the attitude is - you try to win the game. I think it's important for a 10 yr old kid to not lose every game during a season. They will quit after awhile I guaranteed it.

May I ask the old club's name, or give a hint?

Wow, we decided against joining an Alexandria top team bc of this curriculum they’re fixated on implementing at all levels. On one hand, the intent is good but the execution or implementation isn’t all that. I think it’s a good practice to use for players with no soccer IQ, to help them develop it. But I imagine there are a few kids who are creative players and have good soccer IQ already and it seems it would stifle their competitive instincts.

We just didn’t see a lot of fire/competitiveness of the players at practices.

Not as much fire in pay-to-play--hardly anyone has to suffer just to play with a patch on their shirt. The parents just pay, and they play.

My bad—thought they were referencing the prior tournament.
