You do know a solid percentage of college soccer players are international players?? So no….the clubs & leagues are not prepping them for college soccer $$$$$$ |
Just because they roster a few international players does not mean that the style of play here in the US is preparing any of them to play at the international level. |
| So Arlington lost without their CB - why is that a big deal? Is there a rivalry between Union vs Arlington going on? |
Sure feels like it. This thread went to who knows what page and someone decided to revive it because Arlington lost. Every year there's a thread like this when age groups hit U13 and it always becomes a show. |
|
I can see the argument (excuse?) Arlington lost without CB but didn’t someone on this thread mentioned their offense are also strong? Shouldn’t they still be able to score more to win even though Arlington got scored on? Did everyone just have a bad day?
I will wait and we Union vs Arlington game to see what kind of excuse each team comes up with. |
| Things level out eventually and perhaps this is just an example of it happening. CSA appears to have a good team, so does Arlington. It will be interesting to see how Arlington does against the local ECNL teams. They won 2-0 against VDA at WAGS. |
You do know ECNL and GA exist for the purpose of prepping and showcasing players for colleges? I mean, that's literally what they do and who they are intended to serve. Colleges have no reason to teach or play a style that works internationally, so it follows that these leagues that exist to support getting players to college also have no reason to teach a style that works internationally. |
Well said. Another thing that exists here that does not exist overseas. In Europe, athletics and education don’t mix really. The equivalent here would be collegiate intramural. |
I think, sooner rather than later, colleges will recruit even more and more from abroad, just like in college men’s soccer teams so seems like parents are in denial about this impending reality. Also, some parents are touting that some of the girls on these teams are USWYNT contenders? USWNT won’t be competitive if little girls are not learning how to play the game properly. But I guess it works out. Truly talented girls who want to play properly will have to figure out how to learn that within the confines of kick ball girls soccer leagues, but at least they have less competition from those who just want to play in college. |
We’re already seeing that currently. Some people don’t think there’s a correlation between success at the youth level and shortly thereafter having success at the senior level. Spain is a clear example of finding success through their youth. The USWYNT hasn’t won since 2012 and they couldn’t even get third against Japan in 2016. At least we’ll get to see what happens soon next year with them. There’s no easy answer to solve this with as many pieces involved and really no direct interest in growing the game at the international level. Even a unified pyramid would be tough trying to get all these leagues, NCAA included, to be under a single umbrella. Everybody sends players up to the national teams, but not everybody trains towards the same goal. |
Have you seen some of these youth games? Most teams have player(s) who play the game properly and the right way with good decision. The majority of their teammates might not be. Coaches know who these players are, some would just ignore them and force them to play their style but I've seen some good soccer around 2011/2010 that played beautiful soccer. Just that these teams aren't generally from the DMV area. |
I don’t doubt that there are girls teams who play really good soccer. And I’m sure there are girls on teams in the area who have the skills to play good soccer if they were placed on a team that played that way. I guess my point is that a team that wins a lot doesn’t tell me much about the quality of the players or their skill level. I just really wish parents would let their kids play good soccer even if they’re going to loose. Especially at the young age levels when they shouldn’t even be thinking abt playing in college, or before high school. We’ve played some good teams who can clearly play good soccer. But often by second half, they desperately want to win and start playing kickball. The goalie sends the ball, the kids all try to get to it with a 50-50 chance and/or it goes to a striker or winger making a run for it. And all the parents cheering and yelling Send it! Boot it! Shoot! This goes for both boys and girls. |
| What is going on with Union? Isn’t Clyde coaching that team too? |
What do you mean? He’s coaching that team. |
Lots of chest beating from Union 2011 on this forum. |
