It’s actually not a black moment. It’s a slavery moment and the descendants of slaves are now many colors.

It is NOT just slavery. Its everything that has come after slavery perpetuated by the federal government and state governments and local officials. Time and time and time again. You can point to X number of years for each of the groups mentioned here and yes, they were targeted (Chinese Americans, Japanese Americans, Irish Americans, Italian Americans, etc) but they were not targeted for 400 years. Their children were not taken from them and sold. They were not brutalized and raped to have more chattel children.

And I will say this for the last time. Those groups- many of them knowing full well the issues against their kin- came here anyways, on their own. There is a difference. Discrimination is different than racism.

"Racism is the belief that race has an effect on human abilities and traits and that a particular race is superior to other. Discrimination is the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex. This is the key difference between racism and discrimination"

For people interested in meaningful change - affordable health care for everyone, income inequality, mitigating climate change - progressives have become a curse. $5 million payments to black residents of San Francisco while ignoring the indigenous, Asian and Latino people that really suffered building California; "restorative justice" and the resultant rampant criminality; throwing kids under the bus while closing public schools for nearly two years; the core misogyny of the most vocal trans activists; the almost Maoist Red Guard language police - LatinX anyone?; and the scorched earth destruction of anyone that even whispers some discontent with the progressive agenda has reached Orwellian proportions. Progressives are a gift to the Republican Party. And that's sad and tragic.

Are you sure there is no tribe that your tribe oppressed?

Congrats on making MAGA 💪.

How do people not see the obvious consequences of their rhetoric?

Basically, it is time for reparations. African-Americans have suffered for centuries. Slavery, unending racism, restrictive laws, and a lack of inclusion in the “American Dream” are more than enough reasons to pay back those who have been wronged.

The cost may be steep and it may be a big economic shock, but it will allow millions of our fellow citizens to gain an equitable foothold in society.

Obama begs to differ.
So does Ben Carson.
And, Oprah.
And, Whoopie Goldberg.
And, Michael Jordan.
And, Jay-Z and Beyoncé.
And, Robert F. Smith.

I could go on and on and on.........

Please make the ancestors of slave owners pay and the federal government. USG will just print more money, no problem.

This is a SF program so would have to be paid for by their tax base. Maybe they could make a metaphorical cookie jar that Silicon Valley executives would have to put money in whenever they offend someone on social media.

It doesn't work like that. We can't really weigh the SF proposal without balancing the costs incurred by the taxpayers. In this case, the taxpayers include a lot of Asian people. It can be a black moment-- although I'm not sure what that means-- but that doesn't mean that Asians or frankly anyone else should have to pay for this reparations proposal. California didn't have slavery, none of the people who would get the payments are former slaves (and indeed, may not even be descendants of slaves since the only qualification is being black, not being a descendant of a slave), and none of the people who will pay for it ever owned slaves. So yeah, there's like a whole bunch of considerations that must be injected.
