| How is it not accurate? Are you saying VT is misrepresenting? |
Interesting. We sat in on the admissions presentation a couple years ago. I don’t know if it’s the same person doing them, but she had an odd tone and style, as if she was a junior high or high school administrator. Maybe fine for high school, but it felt slightly unprofessional and overbearing at the college level. The campus and surrounding streets felt very quiet. |
How do you know? I am asking as this is what my junior is currently looking at. |
Just out of curiosity, I searched in the College of Engineering for CS majors last year - it says two people applied and were accepted, for a 100% acceptance rate. I don't think so!

PP here. I should have been more specific - the students sitting around us are what did it for my DC. Just very peculiar and annoying. DC could tell immediately these were not DC's people. I actually don't remember much about the presenter because the kids around us were so distracting. It was almost like being held captive with a bunch of theater kids. |
No, not at all. I think there is a glitch with that website. If you put in certain majors, you'll get a result of "0 people applied" but "7 people accepted," or something along those lines. Maybe it's not updated. |
That was not my experience on a W&M tour at all. I would think so many kids tour it as part of the sort of VA grand college tour that you really can’t read anything from the kind of kids going on a tour. |
There is. Start out selecting all colleges, then department of CS in college of engineering, then deselect all the other colleges (undo the All). It shows for 22/23 applied 18,398 offered 10,100 enrolled 2327 |
This is so funny because A LOT of the kids I know at W&M were huge theatre kids. |
Well, when you tour the other VA schools and do not sense that "vibe," you actually can attribute it at least somewhat to the types of kids who gravitate toward W&M. |
Ah, ok! Thanks for this tip! PP |
Can we please stop talking about admissions presentations at W&M (especially from years ago) on this thread? It's totally irrelevant. |
Those admissions presentations were last year. But yes, this is a VT thread, not W&M. |
|
I think as a general rule many people don’t realize how competitive some programs are to get into at VT in state. Not just VT engineering. The admit rate for something like BIT is substantially lower than the overall in state admit rate for W&M and isn’t much higher than the UVA early action rate. About equal to the UVA early decision offer rate.
People might realize this, but reading a lot of posts in VT threads I don’t think many do. |
What are the stats for CS, etc.? |
