No, that's not why some don't like it.  There are plenty of liberal arts colleges that don't evince the kind of strong reaction W&M does among many.  My DC applied to several SLACs but immediately wanted to leave when we visited W&M and sat in on an admissions presentation.  [/quote]

Interesting. We sat in on the admissions presentation a couple years ago. I don’t know if it’s the same person doing them, but she had an odd tone and style,  as if she was a junior high or high school administrator. Maybe fine for high school, but it felt slightly unprofessional and overbearing at the college level. The campus and surrounding streets felt very quiet. [/quote]

PP here.  I should have been more specific - the students sitting around us are what did it for my DC.  Just very peculiar and annoying.  DC could tell immediately these were not DC's people.  I actually don't remember much about the presenter because the kids around us were so distracting.  It was almost like being held captive with a bunch of theater kids.[/quote]

Well, when you tour the other VA schools and do not sense that "vibe," you actually can attribute it at least somewhat to the types of kids who gravitate toward W&M.[/quote]
