I will assume that's unweighted. Absurd. Is he @ UVA now? OT but it's bizarre how some of the Gov's School students (Maggie Walker, TJ, etc.) we know got waitlisted at Tech in 2022 with amazing stats but they're very happy now at the E-school in Cville.

DP. Why is that "absurd"? They can't take everyone with a 1500 SAT.

Because it IS absurd that an E-school applicant w/those stats isn’t accepted to the Commonwealth’s TECH SCHOOL.

VA Tech should be accepting all in state applicants with 1500. It is ABSURD that kids in state are getting into Ga Tech, Notre Dame, and CMU but waitlisted by Tech. VA Tech’s mission is to support the state not yield protecting and forcing good to great students out of state.

At least the acceptance rate for in state males went from 25% to 35% in 2022 for engineering.

Do the flagship state schools UNC Chapell Hill. U of Texas etc auto accept at certain SAT score level?

NP. I don't know SAT requirements, but UNC limits OOS to 18%. UT guarantees admission for all Texas residents in the top 6% of their class. Virginia has ti be the most "brutal" state to their in state applicants.

But there are MANY more OOS students in engineering than Virginia. Something like 60 percent + are OOS. That's not right for the only polytechnic public university in the Commonwealth to be doing this.

This. And UCLA and Berkeley limit to 10% OOS

+1. And that's exactly what happened to my kid for aerospace engineering. But got into Ga Tech, and Purdue.

In Texas, any student who graduates in the top 6% of their graduating class gets automatically accepted into UT Austin. It used to be top 10%.

This is the only thing that Republicans and Democrats in Texas agree on in regard to education. It benefits the rural white students, suburban students of all races, and students who reside in urban communities. Many state universities in the south have auto acceptance for their top students. This is why I am surprised that Maryland and Virginia don't have a similar practice.

With VT, I think many top students get rejected because the AOs assume that the student is using it as a safety, and they have better options. It doesn't make sense at all. I truly feel for high stats students who are rejected by their state university.

I didn't say it represented the entire state. Dear Lord. I was simply speculating that high stat kids in NOVA were getting turned off to Tech engineering by their recent admission trends focusing on first gen. Simply used recent TJ numbers as an example.

Only the bottom TJ kids are even interested in VaTech. In fact, TJ grads are NOT interested in colleges/universities period including UVA since it has weak CS/Engineering.

49 of the TJ class of 2022 are attending UVA, 26 W&M, and 7 VT. And VT is by far the largest of those 3.

Why should they auto-admit by certain SAT scores? Ridiculous.
