[/quote] In Texas, any student who graduates in the top 6% of their graduating class gets automatically accepted into UT Austin. It used to be top 10%. This is the only thing that Republicans and Democrats in Texas agree on in regard to education. It benefits the rural white students, suburban students of all races, and students who reside in urban communities. Many state universities in the south have auto acceptance for their top students. This is why I am surprised that Maryland and Virginia don't have a similar practice. With VT, I think many top students get rejected because the AOs assume that the student is using it as a safety, and they have better options. It doesn't make sense at all. I truly feel for high stats students who are rejected by their state university. [/quote]
