It’s not just the stock deal. She used personal relationships with the KC Fed to get Reserve Trust a Federal Reserve master account. When her nomination stalled in the Senate, it was said that it was Manchin doing the bidding of fossil fuel companies. But there were real ethical issues in terms of her relationship to this company and relatedly Rep. Raskin’s violation of the STOCK Act, which he has now violated twice and has been fined. |
You must watch/listen to a very interesting news source. |
| Hogan wins by a landslide. Better name recognition and appeals to moderates from both parties, which is where most people are. Normally the Dem would have a massive advantage in PG and Baltimore counties...don't think so w Raskin. |
Exactly. Raskin is another Tom Perez. Has zero traction outside of Montgomery County. |
Van Hollen used to be a MoCo house member. How did he develop statewide traction? |
By being a moderate, not a national liberal standard bearer. They had to gerrymander the district in order for him to beat Connie Morella and even then just barely. He also had the benefit of running against weak primary opposition and a bad Republican candidate. |
Not exactly true. It was a huge upset when he won his first primary against Mark Shriver. |
The Senate primary pitted him against Donna Edwards and a bunch of also rans. His Republican senate opponent was endorsed by Trent Lott. The outcome was a forgone conclusion. |
More evidence that Donna Edwards can’t win a statewide primary for Senate. |

Raskin is thinking about it
https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/3988276-raskin-to-seriously-investigate-potential-senate-bid-over-next-month/ Hogan apparently not https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/3984643-larry-hogan-rules-out-maryland-senate-bid-in-blow-to-gop/ But if Hogan did run, boy that would be the marquee Senate race, like Super Bowl levels of attention for Maryland voters |
|
I just dont see Raskin giving up what is about to be a very powerful house seat for a super competitive race with Alsobrooks and Trone.

I would vote for Hogan, but I think Raskin would win that race.
Don't forget who beat: - Anthony Brown. AB thought it the race was an easy lay-up and didn't really try/campaign that hard. If AB had taken Hogan more seriously, it would have been different. - Ben Jealous. No moderate Republican would ever vote for him. Ever. So Larry basically had the element of surprise in the first race, and then a joke of an opponent in the second. You combine that with how completely OFF THE RAILS the GOP has become at the federal level, and you're not going to get those moderate Rs (or the moderate Ds who voted for Larry) to vote for him against a guy like Raskin. And I include myself in that group. I voted for Hogan twice (and would have a third time), but would vote for Raskin. We can't put another R in Congress |
ITA. Hogan can talk the talk on being a moderate all day long. That was a great an liveable position as governor. As a Senator he will do the bidding of the GOP. |
Is he able to run in the primary for the Senate while also running in the House? Or does he technically have to re-run in the dem primary for his house seat so he couldn't be on both House and Senate primary ballots? |
| Just curious, why would Raskin be more likely to get the primary nomination than the longer-serving institution of Van Hollen? |
