Hypothetical 2024 MD Senate: Hogan vs. Raskin - Who wins?

Cardin will "only" be 81 in 2024. Grassley was just reelected at the age of 89!

And can we kill the myth that Hogan was a decent governor please? He engaged in so much self dealing and worked to enrich himself as much as Trump would, plus he killed or harmed public transportation projects that would have benefited the state. What jobs came to Maryland as a result of Hogan? Did he ever do anything successful? Wasn’t his big purchase of Covid tests a scam? Everything he ever did was a scam. He’s a mini Trump. At least Raskin has actually done things.

Nah, he was good. You sound like one of his loud twitter critics who were mad he played goalie against some of the general assemblies' crazier ideas. Good thing 71% of residents disagree with you.

Instead of ad hominem attacks, why don’t you explain what was so “good” about him? Did he get any new jobs in MD? Did he save any money? Did he do anything? Why is the bar for Republicans so low that “not an insurrectionist traitor” is sufficient to become a United States Senator?

He was pretty good on covid policy. The state got and has maintained its AAA bond rating for the first time in almost 30 years.

He didnt raise taxes, unlike MOM. Purple line will be completed.

Also, Hogan was governor while the national economy was booming, O’Malley was governor during a catastrophic recession where people lost enormous wealth and that impacted the state’s coffers greatly. You can’t just pretend there is no context. Hogan is kind of a nothingburger, and his stance on abortion will probably doom him anyway.

Oh yes, good old governor O’Malley! I especially loved it when he taxed THE RAIN.

But only for some, not for everyone. And it was mostly Montgomery County.

Was he “taxing the rain” for funsies or was he taxing the rain because the REPUBLICANS manufactured an economic catastrophe?

Context MATTERS.

What policies do Republicans support that will make MY life better?

Persecuting immigrants doesn’t make my life better.
Persecuting trans kids doesn’t make my life better.
Making abortion illegal doesn’t make my life better.
Lowering taxes on rich people doesn’t make my life better.
Blowing up middle eastern countries doesn’t make my life better.

Don’t vote Republican- they have no plans to make your life better!

Hogan would not win a presidential run because he’s too moderate.

How about this version:

Hogan absolutely would win the Republican primary for Maryland Senator. Decent chance in the general (<50%)

Hogan would be unlikely to gain traction in the Republican Presidential primary. IF he somehow got it, he'd have a very good chance to win the Presidency in the general.

As a resident of the local area, I strongly suggest not mentioning the Purple Line unless running against Hogan. The rich NIMBYs hate it and yokals like me are mad at the state's mismanagement of the project.

You seem like a hyper partisan democrat. Which I suppose is fine and good for you, but does not do much for this discourse of this thread between two specific candidates- a current congressman, and the soon to be done MD governor. You can keep your talking points to yourself.

Trump is running with either Kari Lake, MTG or Youngkin.

Or it will be DeSantis Youngkin ticket

Hogan no one knows him outside the DMV

The problem isn't so much Hogan, it's the crazy MAGA republican party.

The MAGA republican party is dead, The more moderate republicans and the more moderate democrats are going to be coming forward. Raskin isn't a moderate.

Trump may run bit he isn't getting out of the primary. This past election solidifies that.

Raskin.

Hogan is ok, I think he has some pros and cons, but the GOP is not ok.

Thank goodness we have you to police the discourse of this thread! Instead of trotting out tired ad hominem attacks, why not discuss policy? A Republican senator is someone who will be voting for Republican policy on the national level. What legislation did a Republican president, senate, and house pass?

Tax cuts for rich people. That was it, that was the major legislative achievement of the Republican Party in the last 10 years. Discussing Hogan in isolation and ignoring the actual policies of his party is discourse I consider useless.

With Van Hollen in the other seat, MD Dems from Baltimore might not be too keen on having two white men from MoCo.

Presuming that Cardin is stepping down, the hypothetical primary race would be Raskin, Calvin Ball and Mfume. Maybe Anthony Brown and Jawando also jump in. The only way Raskin wins the primary is Black voters get split 3-4 ways. However, he might also have to beat someone like O’Malley too, who could also run. I have a hard time seeing how Raskin would have broad appeal outside MoCo. He would basically have the Tom Perez coalition and we all see how well that worked for Perez.

Actually all of the progressive democrats won their races. Democrats trying to sell themselves as moderate in more conservative jurisdictions like Tim Ryan lost and lost badly. The governor of Colorado seems to be the most successful “moderate” this cycle, and he has a lot of progressive positions.

And it’s not a problem in my view. I don’t need two choices that virtually look the same. I want to have two distinct visions to choose from.

John Sarbanes wouldn't want to run for his father's former seat?

Is MAGA really dead? That seems a wee bit premature and hopeful. As recently as a couple of months ago I was seeing a lot of Trump signs in the boonies, 2 YEARS after the election. Are you telling me those people are going to give up their lord and savior so easily?

Could be Angela Alsobrooks too.

Also Johnny O, in Baltimore County.
