I listened to a speech by Meloni. She sounds amazing. She wants people to be proud of themselves and their culture.

That isnt fascism. We have pride parades, pride month, a pride flag. If you can be proud of your sexuality, you can be proud of other parts of your identity. She is right, people want to make you erase your identity and be told who you are. Shes right to encourage people to fully embrace their identities.

Regardless of what she is or what she isn't, Meloni has to build a broad coalition in order to govern. That reality coupled with the fact that Italy is heavily dependent upon EU support will dampen extremist policies.

Trump “resonated with people quite strongly” and he’s a serial criminal. “People” are emotional animals with smooth brains, especially when aspiring authoritarians, like Meloni, tickle their primordial amygdalae.

How is Meloni going to stop “these changes”? That’s the crux of the issue; her only option to use the power of the state to restrict others’ liberties. Essentially, her views are anti-liberty.

Wow. What was your opposition to gay marriage if you just want people to have “space to exist”? How about locking up people in prison for using drugs? Do they not get afforded any “space to exist”?

I am not sure what more cogent argument you need, should she knock at your door and tell you in your face? Her party is the direct descendant of the post WWII Italian fascist party (FYI, in Italy recreating the fascist party and showing symbols of the fascist party is actually a crime. So after WWII many right wing people ended up in the Democrazia Cristiana party, the militant fascist fringe created a party called Movimento Sociale Fiamma Tricolore (last two words mean “tricolor flame” or the flame with the three colors green white and red of the Italian flag). In the 90s in Italy many changes happens for all parties (including the communist party). melonis party is the direct descendant of the Movimento Sociale party and it has the symbol of the flame with the color of the Italian flag that she refused to remove.

Maybe this is still not enough for you but the members of the party know very well who they are. Link below is from something that happened last week, not fifty years ago, in Milan at the funeral of a guy where participants, including Romano La Russa, who is from Meloni’s party and is member of the government of the Lombardia region snd brother or Ignazio La Russa, one of the most important members of the party, marched behind the casket repeatedly doing the fascist Roman salute .

I can add tons of similar examples of member of the party expressly honoring Mussolini, doing fascist salute, wearing black shirt (that was the fascist uniform) and so on.
