There’s an interview with a BBC show from 2013 promoting A Good Day to Die Hard where he’s incoherent. They blamed it on jet lag at the time.

He's not remotely incoherent. He says "what does that title mean, A good Day to Die Hard? Maybe it could be Get a sandwich and go shopping" he was pointing out that it is a nonsense. And it is.

It was circulated and commented on at the time to the extent they issued a statement to explain it. He's very mumbly and his responses certainly have the hosts confused.

Yeah. I watched it yesterday. You can find it yourself on Youtube. It was odd, but it was not remotely "incoherent" or rambling.

PP with the father with Primary Progressive Aphasia. Eventually, as the disease progresses, you become “locked in” - that is you can’t express yourself nor comprehend conversations, nor write. My parent, who was always a sparkling conversationalist with an expansive vocabulary, began to answer direct questions with a simple yes or no. This made my mother very concerned and he was fast tracked for a complete neurological evaluation.

His initial treatment was antidepressants (also diagnosed w depression) and I think a med specifically to attempt to slow the progression and typically for Alzheimer’s patients.

Reflecting further, my father had PPA for a full decade and his progression was apparently atypical; for about 3 years, he was able to perform ADL, drive, garden, read. He was by this time becoming progressively quieter. In order, he lost his ability to read and therefore all interest in reading then speech communication became non conversational and he rapidly lost fluency. Then he could only say yes or no and then he went to a rudimentary sign language indicating agreement or disagreement- then soon after became unable to keep these 2 signs straight.

He then became mute. Then at about this time had to move to skilled nursing home where he lived out his life. He lost ability to ambulate and became bed bound and this was how he lived for 6 months. Absolutely vile and undignified way to die and horrific to witness.

I’ve been since compelled to create a will and medical directive; I’d consider assisted suicide or simply go on a hunger strike should I ever receive a similar diagnosis.

“The show's co-founders John Wilson and Mo Murphy said in a statement to the New York Post: 'After much thought and consideration, the Razzies have made the decision to rescind the Razzie Award given to Bruce Willis, due to his recently disclosed diagnosis.”

From what I assume is the Daily Fail plagiariziation of the LA Times article here:

New picture with his daughter so sad still I don’t know why this is affecting me so much it’s because I have this image of him as so strong and cool and funny and he looks so frail and dazed in these photos…

I was looking at his movie history - he was in his first movie with Chad Michael Murray in 2017. Now, nothing against CMM, I'm a huge OTH fan as well as his holiday movies on cable, but he is not A-list material. So I'm thinking he started doing these bad movies where he gets top billing but is only in a few scenes as far back as 5 years ago?

This is so sad. I just think of him as the pinnacle of a huge star. Remember those Seagrums golden wine cooler commercials from the 80s? I discovered them again when I tried to see if I could stream Moonlighting and came across this great article (basically you can't streamline moonlighting because the music rights would cost too much which SUCKS). https://decider.com/2020/03/31/moonlighting-show-is-not-streaming-or-even-available-to-buy-and-thats-a-crime/

There are a bunch of Moonlighting episodes on YouTube.

Oh, bless you for posting that. That episode will live in memory, along with the Taming of the Shrew and the black-and-white one.

I had the worst crush on both of them. I ended up a lesbian but even to me Bruce Willis‘s charms were undeniable. I’ll be thinking good thoughts for him and his family tonight.

He was also said to be missing cues, etc.

As written by his own family, it comes with cognitive impairment. It's hard to tease out what's due to what, but the end result is that he's generally impaired, and also speech-impaired. It's sad, but then a lot of elderly folks have something, and he's had a wonderfully successful life, so... I don't think we should feel too bad for him. It looks as though he was a decent enough person that his ex, his children and his current wife are all taking care of him. Wishing him a peaceful retirement.

He's 67, not exactly elderly. Definitely too young for "something". Good god, you must be really young if you think this way. And heartless.

Also explains the weird pandemic family set up they had going. Bruce was pictured living with Demi and his adult daughters during Covid in a remote area but not with his second wife and under 8 daughters.
So his youngest kids wouldn’t know what was going on? I wonder how he was able to handle his brief appearance in his movie that was filmed in 2020.

Terribly and I can see why his family his making this public now. He was prolific. They wouldn't want him to diminish his portfolio by struggling in roles or just dropping out.

Bruce Willis — who starred in no less than eight movies in 2021 — has been given his own category at the 42nd annual Razzie Awards. “Worst Performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 Movie” is the name of the new category, and the nominations include every single film he starred in last year, including American Siege, Apex, Cosmic Sin, Deadlock, Fortress, Midnight in the Switchgrass, Out of Death, and Survive the Game. Midnight in the Switchgrass was dead last in Vulture’s ranking of straight-to-VOD Bruce Willis films, with our reviewer commenting, “Bruce Willis is a nonessential worker here.”

Honestly I am happy we have an explanation for why his acting was so terrible in recent movies, it felt like he didn’t care but instead was just struggling.

So that begs the question why he did all of those movies last year.
Not clear if he was contracted to do the movies before his symptoms / diagnosis, or if symptoms began and he couldn’t get out of the projects, or if he was symptomatic and still wanted to continue filming for some reason.
Seems unkind to release details about his poor acting now knowing this diagnosis.

He was trying to earn as much as he could before he had to stop?

His entire entourage was earning as much as possible before they were shut down. His earpiece guy was making $200K a movie, sometimes four hours of work, never more than a day on set.

Instead of assuming malicious intent, perhaps imagine that Bruce knew his working days were numbered and HE wanted to do whatever he could to sock away cash for his big family (5 kids plus a wife who isn't likely to work) AND take care of his loyal staff.

I think that was the case.

His reputation was that of a party guy, but also an all around good guy.

Heck, he probably also realizes HE will incur a lot of expenses for longterm care at some point--and that will eat into whatever he can leave behind for his family.

It's sad, but I believe he is making good decisions based on his interest in providing for his family. I don't think anyone is taking advantage of him...not with Demi involved.

There is a difference between putting him up on boring roles as a family doctor living in the suburbs and cheating on his wife and an action role where his stunts have the potential to harm and affect others. See what just happened with Alec Baldwin and killing that cinematographer. Now think back on this incident two years ago -

In one alleged incident two years ago on a Cincinnati set of the movie “Hard Kill,” Willis unexpectedly fired a gun loaded with a blank on the wrong cue, according to two people familiar with the incident who were not authorized to comment. No one was injured. The film’s producer disputed that the incident occurred, but the alleged discharge left actors and crew members shaken.

And, if everyone was just indulging his wishes, why change course on the day an expose is coming out? The story doesn't make him look bad, it makes the family and industry look bad.

That's the point. He was being used and abused for high-level salaries for everyone around him including agents, handlers, and if his wife just this ride - her too. He didn't even know why he was on set, pointedly asking 'why am I here?'

This is a DC forum, it's well documented there are many powerful politicians and judges with memory loss diagnoses and alzheimer's / dementia prescriptions. They are also being used and abused by those around them. It happens a lot.

He’s always been very express. It’s startling. There is a twinkle remaining in some photos, though I suspect they are from last year. Sad as well.

Willis’s double was mentioned upthread and there’s an interesting piece on him in the Post - he’s from Cheverly.

It has been my experience with similar diagnoses that the person who is afflicted still feels “like themselves” for a long time after symptoms are apparent to others. Straight denial can also be a big factor. I wouldn’t be surprised if he just said yes to all these movies before his loved ones had the ability to stop him. Regular people go through this all the time with travel and driving. I bet everyone who has been a caregiver for someone with cognitive decline has a story about something their loved one believed they could do or were going to do long past the point where they could.

Everyone thinks “oh if I get that diagnosis I’ll just end it” but by the time you get to the diagnosis, it’s not like your now cognition is in there understanding the diagnosis. You’ve become a new and different person.

It’s really hard and will be really hard for his family no matter their resources.
