Bruce Willis' family announces he has aphasia

Ironically, I always liked his voice, way to back to Moonlighting.

Very sad.

Please excuse the insensitivity of this question. Is there any chance that this diagnosis can correlate to drug use, current or past? Not necessarily in his case, but in general?

Luckily you can watch all the dvds and stream whatever you like with his voice on it.

I was so sad to read about this today! I thought it was nice that his former wife and current wife kind of posted it jointly. He clearly has a lot of people in his corner which is great. I do wonder if it’s the start of Alzheimer’s or something. Would 67 really be considered “early onset” as some posters said? It makes me feel old that he is apparently so old.

Early onset Alzheimer's is Alzheimer's that is formally diagnosed before 65. So based upon the public information, he doesn't have that.

It sounds a lot like dementia. How sad.

My mom experienced aphasia out of the blue. She was later diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. Sometimes aphasia is a symptom of something bigger going on.

I’m so sorry about your mom

Also explains the weird pandemic family set up they had going. Bruce was pictured living with Demi and his adult daughters during Covid in a remote area but not with his second wife and under 8 daughters.
So his youngest kids wouldn’t know what was going on? I wonder how he was able to handle his brief appearance in his movie that was filmed in 2020.

Terribly and I can see why his family his making this public now. He was prolific. They wouldn't want him to diminish his portfolio by struggling in roles or just dropping out.

Bruce Willis — who starred in no less than eight movies in 2021 — has been given his own category at the 42nd annual Razzie Awards. “Worst Performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 Movie” is the name of the new category, and the nominations include every single film he starred in last year, including American Siege, Apex, Cosmic Sin, Deadlock, Fortress, Midnight in the Switchgrass, Out of Death, and Survive the Game. Midnight in the Switchgrass was dead last in Vulture’s ranking of straight-to-VOD Bruce Willis films, with our reviewer commenting, “Bruce Willis is a nonessential worker here.”

Honestly I am happy we have an explanation for why his acting was so terrible in recent movies, it felt like he didn’t care but instead was just struggling.

So that begs the question why he did all of those movies last year.
Not clear if he was contracted to do the movies before his symptoms / diagnosis, or if symptoms began and he couldn’t get out of the projects, or if he was symptomatic and still wanted to continue filming for some reason.
Seems unkind to release details about his poor acting now knowing this diagnosis.

I think it's more likely the patient does not measure the impact of his disability, and that the family has stepped in to persuade him not to engage so much. Part of that is to go public. No knowledge of this particular case, but this is usually what happens.

This is incredibly sad. He seems so young -- in part because the older I get, the younger 65+ seems. He is very fortunate to have so many people who care about him who will help provide or obtain the care he needs now and in the future.

The Razzie announcement was in Feb. Perhaps they’ll walk that back now.

I was super sad to read Demi's post on insta today. I've always liked Demi and Bruce, and loved reading her memoir last year about how they've stayed close all these years and were true friends in addition to being co-parents.
